Billy, would you at least clarify what you mean by its working? It works, doing what, exactly?

In all honesty it could be used to represent many things. I am not aware of any specific traditions that use it as a religious or iconographic symbol, but I imagine that it can be used for magic.

It is constructed of triangles forming an octagon, inside a circle, inside a square, framed by an eight pointed star, and finally another circle. I am not sure on the name or specific purpose of this symbol, but maybe breaking down the pieces can shed some light...

Personally I would assume the areas of the circles represent the physical, mental, and spiritual worlds. The inner octagon of triangles give me the impression of the physical level of the eight elements. The eight-point star I would assume to be the same eight elements in spirit. Their overlapping makes a set of outward-facing triangles which turns the octagon into a sunburst and to me represents the outward radiation of the elements from one state to the next.

Where the circle often represents the spiritual conceptualisation (and often feminine energies) of a concept, the square tends to represent the physical end of things, and sometimes the masculine concepts of those material energies. The square encloses half of the 'spiritual' star, and all of the rest equally as to the outer circle.

All together, My thought is while the masculine (square) can have a more rigid strength over certain elements compared to the softer feminine, the feminine relates to all where the masculine only relates to some. And the greatest control comes when the masculine and feminine exist together in unity.

In summary; When the physical is within the spiritual, and the masculine resides within the feminine, one will have unity of the whole.

... Under this interpretation, the image could be used similarly to a magical circle, representing these concepts of unity and reinforcing power, combined masculine and feminine, and enlightenment to construct a personal seat (ie focal point) of power.

Why would you ask to translate it if you already knew what it was?
