I used to be quite an active member on here many years back, I believed in some form of Wicca or general Paganism and practiced witchcraft, etc, etc.
Im here for the simple fact of curiosity. Now that I am older, Ive started to question religion a lot more. I currently place my self as lacking religion, but not denying it. I am labeless.
My question is, what do you believe, and why? What do you have to say about the things that disprove your religion (science, other religions, chance, etc)?
Im not looking for debate, just gathering info. I am genuinely curious and I genuinely respect your decision to believe in any sort of dogma, so no need for anger or shyness :)
Eh, I figure it this way; I believe what I believe. I don't need to prove it to anyone to make it valid in my eyes. People who need to cram their views down other peoples throats makes me question if they are projecting a bit. Like they need you to believe it because perhaps they themselves to a degree don't.
As for what I believe, that is a rather complex question that could span the legnth of many pages. Simply put, a lot of it is things I have seen and heard. A lot of it I have tested for myself. On a moral level, I find my religion flows with the morals I already have rather than against it. I think it is important to find a religion that suits you. One that does not require you to change who you are as a person.
My path is mostly based around Witchcraft. Practicing magick is a big part of my belief. I do a lot of spells, and fairly often. There's a wide variety of spells that I preform. I'm fine with doing a spell to boost someone's confidence; I'm fine with cursing someone. I work a lot with the elements in my spells, particularly Fire.
I have a belief in spirits of the dead and of faeries. For this reason, I choose to celebrate Samhain and Beltaine. I don't celebrate any of the other Sabbats. My path isn't particularly influenced by Wicca except in the fact that I celebrate those two Sabbats.
I don't exactly believe in a deity. I'm a bit secretive as far as deities and whatnot, so I won't say anything more than that I believe in something a little bit like a god, though I don't worship them by any means.
My views are also influenced quite a lot by Nihilism, which I know doesn't generally go with Paganism, but it works with my beliefs.
I wouldn't say there's any proof against any of the things I believe. For example, faeries aren't something that "officially exist," but there's no evidence that disproves their existence.
I am a Trinitarian Wiccan. Personally, I believe the Holy Spirit of the trinity is the sacred feminine and the Earth Goddess. I also believe that God is basically every god combined, so I guess that makes me an omnitheist? I'm looking for someone to mentor me in Trinitarian wicca so I can learn from someone else instead of a website.
Both Christians and Wiccans disapprove of my path, so it's not the world's easiest, but it's mine. :) I don't mind them, I just try to respectfully disagree and move on with my life. :)
I believe we are all on a spiritual path that may or may not include a religious affiliation. When I choose to attend a religious service I prefer Universal Unitarian as they accept all beliefs.
I feel that is a "magic" to the universe that one merely needs to be disciplined enough to tap into. I am currently studying the Hermetic Orders, Qi Gong and elemental witchcraft. There is something to be gained from all who came before us.
I think that no matter what a person's beliefs are, there will always be something available to disprove, discredit, or cast doubt upon it. So it comes down to faith for me. I have personally never been told to believe in every little part of a religion as fact, but I have been asked to have faith in the belief that anything is possible.
