Morality in Magic

Is there something in particular you would never do? Never think of doing?

Is there something you would consider doing only if things were the most dire?

Are there things which you know others would never do, that you do daily?

What are you morals regarding magic? How far are you willing (and able) to take things? How far have you taken them in the past?

I figure that through these sorts of discussions, we'll all be able to get to know each other better. :)

Please keep going with these questions, for I love reading them and questioning myself. (And, I am a little too shy to post my own questions yet). I am happy that you are a part of this coven, for you seem really nice and helpfull and full of ideas.

Hmm the extreme for me would be killing someone, using my powers for my own selfish gain, thode type of things. I would rather turn someone's life around for the better.

I honestly enjoy posting these sorts of discussions, it helps me get to know everyone better, but also to puzzle out my own brain and mind about the questions. (You feel free to post whenever you are comfortable. I'm in a tizzy to see what questions you'll come up with.) Thank you and I'm terribly glad to see people willing to put themselves out there and answer such things. :)

Is there something in particular you would never do? Never think of doing?

I can't say for sure there is something I would never ever do. Admittedly I have very strong morals which I turn aside whenever it is more useful or necessary to do so. If the situation never came up, I would never do things like kill a person, but if for whatever reason I deemed it necessary or useful to do so, I'd do it. That isn't to say I'd do it lightly though, I'm much too busy with bettering the lives of others and my life to throw death and suffering every which way. Just that I don't have a moral stopping place, just pauses.

Is there something you would consider doing only if things were the most dire?

Lots of things, killing people being the big one, causing things to occur like ((insert inappropriate horrible thing)), etc. However most dire depends on one's definition; I consider most dire to be anything which makes it necessary or better to do so. I can't say that I'd ever work it at a nation/international level (killing Hitler for instance), but on a personal/community level, maybe. I've just never needed to do anything terribly extreme with magic before.

Are there things which you know others would never do, that you do daily?

I bind people, but that's not exactly daily. However I have no moral qualms about binding a person, nor am I ever particularly concerned that doing so will be harmful to the people I protect or to me. But with things like bindings, I put special criteria into them so that the person/people it is cast on can always get out with a change of heart. I never consider anyone or anything unchangeable; it just takes time sometimes.

What are you morals regarding magic? How far are you willing (and able) to take things? How far have you taken them in the past?

Overall I would say my practices range towards the "lighter side" of magic, though I have the knowledge and experience to get quite nasty with it. I am both willing and able to take my practices to their extremes (I've had a couple of "rainbows and sparkles everywhere" days and some of the opposite) if necessary. I don't feel particularly confined by my morals, though I do have a moral concept within my religious beliefs.

In the past I've bound people several different times, I've built and experimented with curse jars, I've assisted in the sundering of bonds, of jobs, etc. I've energy drained people out of spite, I've sealed them within a shield, I've drawn sigils to limit their abilities. I've created servitors/thoughtforms intended to swoop down on people, haunt them, and/or stalk them. I've never tried to kill anyone though, never really had a reason to try.

However I always take responsibility for these things and whatever reactions my religious moral concept may bring me. Interestingly I've learned that in only extremely rare cases are these reactions anything I can pin down.

Is there something in particular you would never do? Never think of doing?-
The number one thing I never do is affect someone capability for free will. Any mind effecting spells that target others are big no nos for me. Other then that not much. I am fairly open to doing what has to be done. If I learned that the death of one could save millions I would do what saves the most. Its a dire way of looking at it and I hope I never get in such a situation.

Is there something you would consider doing only if things were the most dire?-
hmmm see above. Other than that if I had to I would do most things but that really depends on your definition of most dire. If it was a choice between me or someone innocent to the situation dying I would like to believe at least I would choose myself.

Are there things which you know others would never do, that you do daily?-

Not much really, I am a fairly moral person but I am just willing to do more if it helps more people.

I am able to take things quite far but only do so in the most pressing situations. The only thing I really wont do is mind effecting spells on others as free will is one of the things I treasure most. In the past ive done things that most would not such as blood magic (I don't consider this bad at all really it just has a permanency that I like to avoid) , summoning evil entities, cursing and other such things. I am still more then willing to do these things in certain situations.
