It is obvious that most of the spells, werewolf, vampire, etc, are not real, but I am willing to volunteer and go through the others to test if they work, then I could submit a list to a mod and they could delete which ones have an haven't worked. It would be nice if other people helped with this, too.
I agree with Personified. Do not forget that these spells also bring in site traffic and brings new people to the site every single day. Plus there are several beliefs out there. Someone who follows one of these beliefs might add a spell but another person may view it as fluffy when it is possibly not. There is also those considerations needed to be accounted for.
I think people should try to post informational post in it and help it get better instead of complaining about it. We all know the pretend people go there, no stopping it, but if people were to post good spells, it would help.
@ personified, i would actually find that fun, but i've always been obsessed with organization. as a kid i use to clean and organize peoples houses. i'm not O.C.D. but i do have some tendencies lol.
as its been stated the issue isn't as easy as just deleting the coven, only the site admin can delete covens and spells. [while i understand why he wouldn't give that authority to an editor or mod, i wish he would let us edit/delete spells] spell casters coven is not the problem, its the majority of its uneducated [inexperienced] users thats the problem. i've met many well intentioned people in spell casters who just needed a little guidance. theres even mods in the coven. the coven is perfect for some who wishes to add spells and articles but doesn't want to be in an actual coven. i don't feel this feature should be taken away.
i have seen many people post similar forums about Spell Casters over the years. it isn't going away. do something about it. the traffic the site gets from the coven will keep it around. it isn't that hard, simply rate down/flag spells and article that are fluffy. you can take as long as you want. i use to take an hour on sundays to work on articles and spells [adding, editing, ranking, deleting] start with the fantacy section, most of those you just read the title to know its fake. click 1 out of 5 stars, then the spam link and you're done. takes 5 seconds [depending on internet speed] to do and you are helping out the site. Spell Casters may be the largest coven but there are more users on this site.
for the actual coven [and for those of you really eager to teach] go into the forums and help people, maybe post information about 'the basics'. Spell Casters has become a dark void where most people look down their nose, this isn't needed. the majority are new members, new to this path, all they know is what they've seen in Charmed or The Craft or some other movie. we have all been their at some point, they just need some help. this won't get rid of every troll and/or fluffy bunny, but it will cut down on a lot of confused and misguided people who think the spell will work.
The spell caster coven will not be removed nor will it's dynamics change. The coven is set up top allow any coven member the ability to post a spell in the coven spell book. Sure many of the spells are farce however they do help teach serious students the difference between nonsense and spells that will actually work. Some of the fantasy spells posted on this site draw in those who have an interest and want to know what magic is actually capable of. Once here many of these people encounter others whom help guide them to which spells are real and how to practice a magical life.
Who are you to deny these people from learning simply because you don't like having to deal with the reality of fantasy spells existing. They existed well before the internet was here in fantasy fiction and movies. Cutting off a path that another may travel to reach their destination in life just because you don't like fake spells is a selfish act. It's putting your desires before another's freedom. I suggest, as I have suggest many times before, that one gets used to the spell caster coven because it's not going anywhere.
