Can a Protective totem soak up so much negative energy that it turns out negative energy?

I have never seen one send negative energy back out though it could be possible, but they do lose power and can absorb negativity. specially if they are around a lot of strong negative situations. You can easily take and cleans it again and re-charge it. Though if you think its absorbed a lot of negativity I'd to it on a waning moon so it takes the energy away and than after the first night of a new moon recharge it.
