Voodoo & Hoodoo

I heard hoodoo is basically voodoo without the belief in the deities worshipped in voodoo

Voodoo is the 'Americanized' word for the West African Ewe religion Vodoun/ Vodou. Hoodoo is the Shamanistic practice that is present in New Orleans.

From what I know and have read and what not. When Vodoun first came to America. It was either picked up by others or carried on and the spiritual aspect was dropped and the magick form carried on.

And another thing to note since where the dif. of Hoodoo and Vodoun. Is the what we know as the ''Voodoo Doll'' is completely Hoodoo. But Vodoun does carry a form of dolls that represent the Loas/Lws and ancestral relitives...

Voodoo is a religion. Hoodoo is folk magic. Santeria is Voodoo substituting Christian (specifically Catholic) saints for the Voodoun Loa. The magical practices are different as well, considering that Voodoo requires the intervention of a Loa and Hoodoo does not, so I would say the differences are a bit more substantial than just a general ''this without that, and that without this,'' but I don't know enough about either to speak authoritatively on the issue
