Mail here is WEIRD

I should also specify that most mail of this type is from people who have not given any info about themselves in their profile. :/

That is just what the mail is like here, the same is found on many other forums.

You can state in your profile that messages should include an informative subject and have a magickal topic but very few will read the information.

Any mail you consider pointless, flirtatious or spam can be deleted and blocked to stop them from sending you more mail. Unfortunately that is the best you can do other than change your profile to something very bland, which is no fun at all.

I can honestly say I do seem to got quite a bit more random/flirtatious/pointless mail HERE than I do in any other community forum or board where I'm a member.

That said, there are definitely enough legitimate and helpful people here that it's worth putting up with the crazy mail! :D

If you are getting messages that you deem harassing or inappropriate first thing you should do is click the ignore button and then report any messages that violate the terms of service to petrarca the website administrator where he can take the appropriate actions if any messages you get have violated the rules of this site,

But i do agree these messages do get annoying and even aggravating

couldn't agree more. you do get some nice people, but there are a lot of impatient types [like i had this one person i was chatting with, logged off, came back the next day and there was 5 messages which went 1. question 2. pleading 3. question again 4. angry 'you're so full of it i'm blocking you' 5. 'please answer me i'm sorry, i didn't mean it i'm just really desperate to know how to cast a simple spell' and i'm sitting there like 'uh... ok... crazy'] really want to shake these people yelling 'patience is a virtue' especially when it comes to magick, i've had to wait upwards of 3 months for a spell the complete and you couldn't wait 12 hours?

i do find it annoying [and a little creepy] when you get a random 'no subject' or 'hey' and the message just says 'hi' or 'you're cute' or 'what's up' or some simple thing. i get it's hard to break the ice, but a little bit of a conversation like 'hey, i saw your profile and we like the same thing...' oh, and it can't be stressed enough how this isn't a dating site but people still try. this one guy started flirting with me once and when i told him i'm practically married he replied ' so am i, doesn't mean we can't have fun ;) ' never blocked someone so fast in my life lol!

anyway, complaining aside, there isn't much to be done beyond boldly displaying you're only here for magick in your profile [even then some choose to ignore it] deleting the no subject or titles you sense are a waste of time, or spending your time online blocking everyone you feel wouldn't engage in civil conversation.

I usually just delete and block those messages. Although I have to admit, sometimes the attention is nice.

Well at least I'm not alone -- LOL!!

Since I posted, I did add to my profile, basically stating that I'm here for the magic, not the dating (ha!) and that does seem to have helped.

And, on the positive side, the legitimate, friendly, helpful people here definitely make it worth it to put up with the weird mail! ;)

As stupid as it is, remove your face picture from your profile picture and you won't have nearly as many problems. Part of how these people single out a person is based on whether you have a face picture or not.

Yes, it shouldn't be necessary to not have a picture of yourself up on order to utilize this site peacefully. Unfortunately I have found it to be true in all/nearly all cases.
