Homespun Incantation App

I recently gutted an affirmations app by deleting all the built-in affirmations, and photos, and then picked my own music to upload into it as well. I then was able to use this handy tool for lovely miniature incantations on the go, as corny as that sounds. But really, I am sure we have all established by now that all affirmations are, are incantations with any "pagan-ness" stripped away. I'm telling you, having this little connection to the spiritual side of myself wherever I am is extremely empowering and enriching. It was also easy to do, I just programmed phrases like "I project a white light through my body to aid me in restoring health, vitality, and beauty," or "I receive guidance from the universe and my soul," or " I honor the spirits and ancestors that guide me in my journey." I set the app to cycle through them randomly, or I can just pick the one I need at a given moment. Those won't speak to everyone, but that's the point I guess. A tool like this is extremely personalizable. In addition to the words to chant, I added a flickering candle image, or something else inspiring and mood-appropriate depending on the goal of a particular incantation. With the addition of enchanting sounds added to the background, I have myself handy little "spells" at my disposal at all times. I actually have it set to a timer to go off every few hours (at the sound of chimes) which is the loveliest interruption I never knew I needed in my day.

Again, this is not going to resonate with everyone, which I completely understand. I think I would have scoffed at this in the past. This is absolutely not as potent as a full-blown ritual with all the fixin's, but it has become a beautiful and beneficial part of my everyday life. Most importantly, I connect with that part of myself every day, albeit in a simple way. This is not something I could have stated about myself ever before. so this feels like a big win for my personal goals.
*These can be made more potent by sitting outside in the grass, or lighting a real candle, or having a friend join in. This is just as personalizable as the rest of it and the possibilities are vast.

For anyone interested, the app I settled on was My Affirmations created by Linto Varughese. I liked that one because of its extreme flexibility and its ability to set reminders, however, Daily Affirmations by Magnetic Lab was also quite good and had fantastic built-in music. These are just android-based, as far as I know.

Has anyone else done something similar? Or perhaps found another interesting way to add something spiritual to the day in an unexpected manner? Also, I don't mind if there is critiquing of this. A friendly debate is not discouraged. As I mentioned, I think this would have completely turned me off once upon a time.

Have a lovely day everyone

Very interesting post.

Honestly I kinda love this idea, but perhaps that's just me.

The thought that you've personalized it to what you want is just great.

The only thing I've really done like this was phone related as well. I set my phone up with the beta alpha etc waves along with a visual meditation focus. I threw on a candle with a flame and set the waves that yes you could set on a timer. I used it for a mini digital meditation station as I called it.

I'll think about giving one of the apps you suggested a try.

I didn't think to try this with affirmations.

Nice idea.

Hi UrbanLegends,

The binaural beat/brain wave apps are pretty fantastic! I use a few of them too, primarily when I am studying. They are great for getting me in the right mindset. I may be guilty of having zero attention span at times (Gemini) but those rein me in quite well. It would be a fantastic tool for meditating. I will have to give them a try for that next time.

This is... Neat. Intriguing if I must say. Incantations are truly a powerful form of magic if used right. By far, in my opinion, the best type. But I find this post interesting because it is a nice thing for people wanting to learn to use incantations to read. I respect thee and all other Incantation users.
