Yes, that is correct. Your emotions are beneficial to both creating strong intent and energy needed to produce results. Spells rely on your intent, and your emotion and thought are what fortifies your intent. The stronger your intent and energy the more likely your success is. Depending on what kind of spell you're looking to cast, intense emotion will be beneficial to the strength of your intent and what you want to make happen. Take curses for example, if you're looking to cast a curse your strong dislike or spite towards the person is what fuels your curse. The emotiongathers negativity/negative energy which you then send their way along with your intention of what you want to make happen.

yes, this is why pagans/witches/wiccans try to keep their emotions in check and be aware of their energy. you could unintentionally cast a spell if you're caught in a powerful emotion. think about the last time you were furiously angry, you clench your fist, grit your teeth and grumble 'i hope you get punished' in this state you're focused and you've got a lot of energy flowing through you, in that moment, you might of cast of the person and then a week later you find out they've been taken to the principals office and is getting suspended for some unrelated thing.
i'm not saying you should therefore be all rainbows and sunshine [even anger can have positive results. get mad enough in your situation at work you find a better job] but you should check in every couple hours with yourself and ask how you're doing. there's been times i'll be walking along and start feeling anxious so i put my hand on my heart, take a deep breath and ask 'why do i feel like this?' sometimes we need to do this, just take a moment, a deep breathe and check in with yourself.
