Unfortunately, I'm prone to disassociating and therefore anything that has to do with meditation can easily become a bad idea and cause me to disassociate quicker and with even less control. Does anyone have any advice?
Stick with it. The brain, even yours, can be trained. You can keep focus and quiet your mind if you work hard at it and stick with it.
A good technique if you stray and dissociate often is to have something to focus on during a meditation session. This could be something simple like the flame of a candle (focusing on visualizing the flame), or a word/phrase such as calm. Another trick I use is mental and verbal commands to myself that I will Quiet my mind. When you say something aloud, you are bringing conscious thought and intention into the physical plane and manifesting it to become part of your reality quicker than pure thought. So its worth a shot!
Again, the brain is trainable. Practice makes perfect!
