Cedar vs Juniper

Okay so I was looking around at my cedar tree to identify the exact type. I got that it was a Eastern Red Cedar tree. However, this doesn't actually belong to the cedar tree family but the juniper and is sometimes known as Eastern Juniper. Didn't see that coming.

So what properties would be fitting? That of a cedar or juniper?

Does it have juniper-like berries? I would then say juniper.

Yep the leaves and berries are that of a juniper. The heart wood smells like cedar though.

Does it betray evidence of grafting?

Nope. Its a natural tree and are everywhere around East Texas.

That's what many of us know as "aromatic cedar". Maybe instead of going back and forth on what/how to work with this plant, you could work with the plant itself or with the spirit of the plant. If you are using it as a living plant, I would look into the juniper properties first. If you are using it as wood, I would look into the cedar properties first.

For instance, the wood has always struck me as cedar. I've handled it, worked with it on various things, even worked with the spirit of it before. I have an upcoming project where cedar is what I am requested to use by the deities/spirits it's for. I'm going to try to use aromatic cedar, rather than true cedar, as the smell of the cedar is important for the use. It actually being juniper isn't as important as that it smells strongly like cedar, even more so than actual cedar.

The plant as a living thing might strike me differently, I'm not sure as I haven't handled it knowingly.
