I believe so. Sometimes my dreams predict the future, I had a dream about a new teacher coming to my school and teaching me and the exact same thing happened in real life. I dreamt about wolves, and look! They are my spirit guide! I have a dream dictionary and I refer to it when is see something significant. I dreamt of a ladder, which means ascending in a position, and I got a raise in classes !

It is interesting that you ask this, because of the current funding of Brain study in recent months established by the current established Administrate of the United States.
One of those focuses by the Brain Campaign is the study of sleep.
Now, dreams of any sort - whether it be of "psychic" manner or not, the current summery of the study of dreams is rather complicated.
Psychology Today released a great article on the matter: (Link Below)

Here is a great place to start for answering your question.

I have the same gift only I believe my spirit guide comes in the form of a kitten or cat. I dreamt an ec crush I almost slept with gave me his number in a club as I'd left my best mate for him. Stuff happened with my ex crush and it turns out he emailed my best mate on Facebook and last time he ran into him I'd had funny dreams and my best mate declined to tell me they'd spoken but the first thing he asked about was me and the incident happened ten years ago.
