As frightening or disturbing an event that may have been, there's a good chance it was just whatever was messing with you holding on and trying to keep you from leaving like a clingy toddler. Often the presence or action of a spirit can feel much more menacing than it really is. Every ghost feels like an evil ghost until ghosts themselves don't freak you out - it's just one of those things.
I'm thinking that it may not have been a spirit though... it could have been someone wanting to cause harm to you... I can ask a friend and see what they say, as they are pretty good with stuff like that, so can you give me every bit of info you can?

But it didn't cause harm. And I find it strange that a magician would be competent enough to conjure a spirit and send it after someone, but not competent enough to succeed at something as simple causing harm.
You missed my point - if this magician were sucky enough to fail at something as basic as causing harm, he surely would have sucked too badly to conjure a spirit and send it after someone.
if it was set to harm him it would of used its physical powers to throw him away from the door, as he said he could of easily got out but it hurt meaning they where giving him the option to stay or leave but they'd like him to stay. It could be a astral spirit looking for help and they thought that going to the nearest source of magic could help which isnt always true, if anything like that happens again I'd suggest that you connect with the being through meditation, meditate and clear your mind, lower your astral protection and invite only that spirit in, if it was going to harm you it would of by now. And dont fear it whatever it is, fear can turn helping spirits mad for the thrust of fear once again turning them into demon spirits making them harmful
