There is one I have quoted here often due to the nature of this site. It is a quote from Buddha.

"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense."

Just because someone wise, respected, or 'supposedly' knowledgeable says something is so does not mean it is definitely so.
