The major ways to use powders in Hoodoo Rootwork :

Sprinkle the powder by walking backwards.
Blowing the powder to the four quarters.
Blowing powder toward the person or place.
Placing piles at the corners or lines at the door.
Drawing crossing patterns in the street.
Dressing altar candles, money, business cards, one's body.
Carrying powder in a mojo bag.
Dusting the target's socks, shoes, underwear(not too easy to accomplish)

These methods are pretty self explanitory, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
(if i left anything out or got anything wrong....let me know as i am just learning)

depending on your needs, or the "job" your doing will tell the kind of powders and the ingrediants needed for it. You can make your own powders or buy them already made up.

there may be local stores in your area or you can look them and buy them from online. It may be better to make your own (just my personal belief)

Does the "sprinkle while walking backwards" cover the creation of large sigils? I am not a hoo-doo practitioner, but the only ritual I witnessed involved a large cross with I think a bandana and sunglasses, and they used ash or some sort of powder on the ground to form an intricate cross-sigil.

ok....life.....depending on what you need, depends on the powder. Most can be made from things you have at home.

Khaos.....I'm not sure about that. I do know that some practioners use powders on their altars to make symbols, as well as just laying the powder on the altar.
