The practice I'm assuming you speak of is actually called poppetry and is a form of sympathetic magic with roots in European folk magic.

Breaking the connection:

Some folk remedies would be:

• Roll the egg of a black chicken down your body (head to toe). Dispose fo the egg by throwing at a tree or burying it at a crossroads.
• A salt bath, scrubbing head to toe. Air dry and do some prayer/meditation afterwards.

Otherwise, you could use a visualization to break the connection, praying to spriits, or placing a poppet of the other work in a mirror box. There are many ways.
