The Element of Earth

Earth comes to us with a triangle facing downwards, an a line through the bottom (or top) of the triangle.

  • Direction: North
  • Zodiacs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
  • Polarity: Feminine
  • Colors: green, brown, black
  • Animals: Dogs, horses, cows, deer, bear, wolf, gopher, worm, mole, rat.
  • Herbs: Cedar, cypress, honeysuckle, ivy, magnolia, oats, patchouli, sage, oak, wheat, nuts, roots, potatoes, hawthorn, cedar.
  • Crystals: Emerald, onyx, jasper, jet, tourmaline, malachite, peridot, moss agate, jade.
  • Metals: Iron, lead
  • Symbols: Square, cornucopia, spindle, scythe, salt.
  • Substance: Tree, soil, plant, fungus, cave, mountain, ground, forest, grove, canyon, field, farm, garden, park, mine, basement, hole, crater, nursery, kitchen.
  • Tools: Salt, pentacle, stones/crystals

Earth is associated with abundance, growth, prosperity and strength. It's destructive side are earthquakes, avalanches and mudslides.

Earth is the sole purpose of all other elements as it represents a basis for each of them.

The basis and foundation of all the elements is the Earth. The Earth is the object; subject and receptacle of all celestial rays and influences and in it are the seeds of all things. It is made fruitful by the other elements and the heavens, and brings forth all things of itself. It is the first foundation from whence all things spring; is the center, foundation and mother of all things. The Earth is the foundation of our lives, as it is both our home and source of sustenance. The Earth Element is ever-present and highly versatile, manifesting as both soil and seed, and witnessed in eternal rhythms of growth, harvest, decay, and regeneration. Earth is the element of stability, foundations and of the body. The Earth is the realm of wisdom, knowledge, strength, growth, and prosperity. It is also the physical Earth on which we live and the very heart of life. It is essential in spells and rituals of prosperity, business, fertility and stability. Earth is a feminine element that governs stone and knot magic.
