This is a ritual that can be done on Samhain to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones that have passed from this world to the next.
Items Needed:
Pictures of the friend(s) or loved one(s) that you wish to honor.
Sandalwood or Myrrh incense.
2 Black candles.
One apple, cut into slices.
Whiskey (apple cider will work if you either cannot get the whisky or are too young to purchase it.)
Matches to light your candles and incense.
Ritual Instructions:
1. Place the photo(s) at the center of your altar.
2. Place the two black candles on either side of the photo(s).
3. Light your candles and incense.
4. Focus on the photos and chant the following:
"On this night, this hallowed eve,
Spirits wander, roaming free.
Candles burning, glowing bright,
Guiding home spirits lost in the night.
Offerings we give to those whove passed,
Both in this year and the last.
Let ancestors be remembered.
Let loved ones never be forgotten.
On this night, this hallowed eve,
Spirits wander, roaming free.
We celebrate not their death, but life.
Through us they live on.
Through us they are remembered.
Thus, they will never truly die.
On this night, this hallowed eve,
Spirits wander, roaming free.
Candles burning, glowing bright,
Guiding home spirits lost in the night."
5. At this time, you can say words of kindness or affection for the loved one(s) you've lost.
6. Place on your altar, the apples and whiskey (or cider), as an offering to the beloved dead.
7. Afterwards, take time to reflect on your loved one(s) that have crossed over. Know that they are always with you. Take some time to meditate and focus on the happy times you've had with them.
8. When you are ready, say your goodbyes and allow your candle and incense to burn out.
