Does it have to be a staff or can you use a wand as well?
I feel since you place it on the ground it's the direct contact that is needed. While I don't think you could use a wand, you could place your hands on the ground or visualize energy returning through your feet. In theory you could try a wand, see if t works for you.
how do I find a staff from?
you can make one, or you can purchase one. a staff is a walking stick you consecrated and made into a magickal tool [a wand or athame does similar things, such as directing energy]
