To find lost items with a pendulum.
Ask the tool to point or indicate which direction the item is in.
Walk to this direction. Ask the pendulum a series of questions taking care to take your time. Questions such as "Is the item in the kitchen?" To help narrow down the whereabouts of the item is exactly the type of questions you will want to be asking.
Continue to utilize the pendulum in this manner until the item is found.
A note on programming
Do not forget before you search for the item to ask your pendulum to indicate its answer for a yes, no, and I don't know.
This will help to determine what it is trying to tell you.
