Substitute item for spell

Hi, the spells I want to perform on my abusive ex require his hair or a personal item from him, which I don’t have. Can I use a picture of him as a substitute for these items?

While the hair or a personal item might be called for, you can always substitute something else that is tied to your ex. A picture should work just fine. What is most important is that you use something that you feel has a strong tie to the person on which you are casting the spell.
