So my first question would be, what do you mean by this " Wiccan stuff "? If you mean how do you become initiated into the religion of Wicca then I'll be happy to answer. You might like to look at my article " What Wicca Is and Isn't" for clarification as to what exactly you are getting yourself into if you chose to become initiated. You can find it at: https://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=637268

Now, let's get to the topic of Initiation and how one goes about becoming an Initiate.

The best way to go about this is to find a Coven which practices Initiation and fulfill their requirements to become an Initiate. Unless you are speaking about one of the British Traditional Wiccan Traditions where the requirements are relatively standardized, each Trad can and does create their own set of requirements for Initiation. I'll gladly share with you the requirements that my Oak, Ash, and Thorn Tradition requires. You can find them at http://www.tangledmoon.org/student_program.htm

The period of time that one works with a group before Initiation serves two purposes. Firstly it teaches you the things that the group feels important to their particular Tradition and the way in which they practice. Secondly it determines whether you are a good " fit " for the coven and also whether the coven is a good " fit " for you. This is important because of issues of trust when one is working in a magical circle. The right coven will feel like a second family to you, perhaps even closer than your birth family. So always take time and feel out groups before you ask to join with them.

Finally, let me address the concept of " self-initiation" . In my opinion there is no such thing. Initiation requires someone to initiate you and something to be initiated into making your part of a group egregore. In magical circles an " egregore " is a group mind or mindset which is invoked in every circle. Without this, there is no initiation. "Self-initiation" should more properly be called "Dedication" in which you dedicate yourself to following the precepts and practices of the Wiccan religion.

One of the best books I've found on the subject, and one I highly recommend that you read is " The Heart of Wicca " by Ellen Cannon Reed. Another really good book (Although not specifically Wiccan) is " The Training and Work of an Initiate " by Dion Fortune.

I hope this has helped. If you have more questions about initiation and/or Wicca don't hesitate to ask me.
