Chaos Magick

I've been getting into chaos magick for a while now-especially in it's philosophy. But I have two questions because the internet has left me unanswered.

1) Is chaos magick counted as dark magic?
2) While the motto is 'taking what we need', I believe in a god -my choice, not directed towards me- and chaos magick states we shouldn't be dogmatic/believe in tradition etc. . So is there something against that?

In all honesty, the idea of any magic being 'light' or 'dark' is up for interpretation. And even then, any definition like that is far more reliant on the purpose than the method.

That said, working with chaos is often seen as both and neither. Chaos is chaos; working with energies that are changing and unpredictable in nature, with no particular resonance towards being specifically beneficial or baneful.

It is like rolling dice, sometimes the number is in your favor, sometimes not. At least that is how I understand it anyways.

As for your second question, as far as I am aware there is no requirement for or against the following/honoring of a personal deity. Though philosophically to be chaotic lends towards not being beholden to the subjective light or dark. Seeing as most deities are more aligned to one side or the other of that coin, it is thought it would give a sense of similar obligation. So, the long and short is it usually makes things simpler for you.

Chaos magic isn't dark magic it's just a term that takes a little bit of this and than that from other paths that the person praticing may be intresting in.

Basically, if you're jumping from path to path not making any spiritual progress or absorving philosophy from that same path, it is a bit of a chaos, right?

I'm not informed in what chaos magic does entirely, and, I don't know if there's magic with evil intentions.

Chaos magic is creating your own type of philosophy and ideals to praticing magic.

Some chaos magicians create their own symbols and sigils and use them in their rituals, but, I wouldn't recommend it.

SXTXH, Chaos Magic is chaotic as in no rules, do as you please and disregarding what does not get results. It's not chaos in terms of disorder.

You say you're not informed of what Chaos magic is, but then you go on to criticize things without reason for doing so.

Where do you think every symbol used in every tradition of religion and magic comes from these days? People created them based on their own personal experiences and based on association with various principles. Why, then, would it be any sort of problem for someone to make a sigil for a specific purpose, or to assign their own symbolic library based on their own personal experiences? There's literally no difference besides age of the given set of symbols.

Please avoid condescending words. I'm here to learn and share some of the knowledge I have but, you don't have to judge man. I said "does", not, what "is". I don't know the results of chaos magic, but, I am aware of how it is praticed.

I recommend you to read The Mystical Qaballah by Dion Fortune. It explains how jumping from system to another system without further knowledge of how it is praticed and praticing magic blindly is unhealthy for your spiritual path. Not to be confused with chaos magic.

I'm not criticizing. I'm trying to help.

Blessings.

My understanding is that beliefs are choices to the Chaos Magician... and belief is the tool that empowers the magic. Chaos magic will require that the practitioner be able to meaningfully switch between any beliefs about themselves, others, and religious beliefs in order to personally test the experience.

Chaos magic has taken on a sinister reputation because some chaos practitioners will work entirely with darker powers and paradigms.

Imho, this in itself is a limitation against the idea of being completely mentally flexible. Chaos magicians have to constantly de-condition their minds to remove old patterns and beliefs and instill new ones so if they are sticking to one [side] are they truly being empathetic to the nature of the magical path they are learning?

In the end, it is your belief on the subject that will determine what your alignment is, if any.

The chaos magic I have seen uses logic as it's base, you can't just take what you need and leave the mess behind, in chaos magic you start from nowhere, and by nowhere I mean that you have no prepration or figured out way to achieve what you want, so you make a logical guess and try to complete the path with guesswork and research through internet. The pattern has to be complete or you may not get the "truth" which is the outcome of success in chaos magic. Although chaos magic means different things for different people because everyone has different experiences and ways to do it. Just try to figure it out and you
may get your own experience.
