Fairies and Gnomes

Merry Meet.

So lately I’ve been seeing Gnomes and little pixies in my backyard. Where I live is a pretty magical place. I have streams flowing everywhere and nature. I want to develop a relationship with them although I don’t know how to. A little help?

Blessings, Starrlene~

Leave out offerings, food and drink. Buy them some plants. Leave a patch of the yard untended for them.

It is a good idea to have protections in place. You may wish to protect your person with amulets, stones, sigils, visualizations etc.

It is a good idea as well to get an idea first of what to expect with the fae. Research all you can about them. The lore and myths.

Fae can be tricky. In my experiences with them I've learned a few things.

Many of them like little things. I've lost rings and stones. I've found random change or pocket money placed where it shouldn't be, possibly in exchange for the "lost" (stolen) items.

House fae can get very upset if the space is not clean, and I have a strong feeling most fae are like this.

If you wish to work with fae out of doors do not do anything destructive to the natural world. Do not litter. If you find litter in your yard pick it up. Do not over harvest plants in the arwa. Do not damage trees or any other wildlife.

Fae will find this very offensive.

When working with house fae keep the space clean .

I have had a house pixie essenially do the fae equivalent of chewing me out due to the state of my parents sink. She, I suppose, was not at all pleased or pleasant.

They do love plants. I have sensed many different fae out of doors attatched to certain plants. Not every plant has a being I am able to sense but I literally feel the presence of fae and others around certain plants outdoors. Quite a feeling it is.

As for other offerings I am not certain. If you do offer or buy them plants, please make sure to take care of them according to how the plant should be cared for. Try to keep the plant as healthy as you can manage. If the plant dies due to lack of care, which includes too much watering, the fae can find this offensive.

Other things people have done for fae are what is called fairy houses. Now I am not entirely sure what is used, but many whom work with fae will decorate a space for them.

Telling what the fae like personally can be essentially as difficult as learning what to ofder or what not to offer a deity. It takes time as the relationship progresses.

My final advice is to try not to keep a lot of iron around. This goes back a time in lore. Traditionally the fae are not fond of iron.

And finally, try to avoid at first working with fae such as elves, and goblins.

I kniw little myself of elves so would not recomnend it for those starting to work with fae.

And I would never recommend working with goblins for those new to working with fae.

Goblins can be incredibly malicious.

Good luck and blessings.

Thank you very much for the help. Also, is there a way you know where you know they are present? I have this little forest area in my backyard and it seems like a perfect place for them.

I can feel spirits a lot of the time clairsentially.

I grew up able to see certain entities around.

Being older I find it easier to feel these things.

An example I have recently is the feeling of being watched in the woods.

Xoxo, I recommend looking into developing psychic or clair ability, if you haven't already. This can help you to in some way become more aware of spirits and other entities in the area.

As I had said when very young I saw such things more often. I also felt things as well.

I have practiced for quite a while, years bit by bit, developing my intuititive ability using methods to develop clair abilities.

I find it easier for myself to sense things clairvoyantly and clairsentiently.

You may find it easier to hear spirits. Or to see them.

I searched here for a couple books you may like to look into, but I can not personally recommend them as I haven't read them.

Merry Meet,

RomanRuin makes a plethora of excellent points.

Leaving space for them is nice, if you live at home, I would not recommend it. I was fortunate my parents were Wiccan and already had a space dedicated, but it is basically a patch of land that is completely untouched. A ball lands in there? It belongs to the Fae now. You cannot cut the grass or decorate it in any way. It becomes a patch of wild brush. In countries like Ireland, you can see fields with a random rock or tree surrounded by brambles the farmer simply planted around because that belongs to the fair folk. My grandparents have a patch like that on their farm because centuries ago when my family moved to Canada, they found a spot like this, and left it for the local fairys. Generations later, it remains untouched.

Unless I am approached by a fairy, I have discovered they do not like being acknowledged. I will leave offerings for them, but not call them offerings. In the morning, I will make two cups of milky tea with honey. I then place one on my hearth for the brownie in my home, but I do not go "here you go, brownie, thank you for your help" I just walk over, put it down, walk away. I place the second cup outside in the same manor. I have a rapport with a few Fae on the land, so if they come by, I will speak with them, otherwise, I go about my day. I have a couple lilac bushes on my property they adore, and whenever my wife or myself pick flowers, we not only thank the tree, but we tell the fariys what we are doing. Simple as "just bringing a few inside." This can go either way as one fairy got offended we killed the flowers. There was an altercation, luckily, the fairy I have worked with most of my life stepped in and worked out a deal.

They love shiny things. Rings and coins are popular, as are crystals. Never use glitter. It might be shiny, but unless it is biodegradable, you are littering. Even the biodegradable kind I have heard mixed results. Plant a garden with sweet smelling flowers and berries. Decorate it with colourful glass bulbs, wind chimes, and little trinkets such as animal statues and mushrooms. Leave at least half of the items you harvest for them.

Protection is also rather important. Fairys are not evil, but they operate by different standards. You might like cut flowers, but they see it as murder. They can curse or bless someone because they are bored. Always have protections ready when dealing with the Fae. Wear a protection symbol, but carry something in case of emergency, like a piece of iron or blessed water so if things get out of hand, you have that extra defense. Research the type of fairy before confronting them. While some are fine with humans asking what they want and how they can work together, others will move if you acknowledge them.

As for gnomes, they can be a bit trickier. I would get some protections beforehand, but leave a bowl of porridge with lots of butter outside and state you want to live in peace. I will not bother you, if you do not bother me. As proof of your contract, state you will leave a bowl for them once a week. Granted, if you are away for an extended period, you need to work out a special deal. I usually have a house sitter do it. Otherwise, I tell them I will do something extra when I return. Granted, I have built up a decent reputation that I can get away with the second option, so I would not suggest you try it at this time.

Blessed Be.

That's unfortunate that they don't much care for interaction with humans. We could probably learn a lot from them. I'd love to communicate with one if I was able to and they allowed it. Unfortunately I don't have any experience communicating with nonphysical beings though.

Oh okay. Do you think I may make an exception though? I’m a medium and I’ve talked to nonhuman beings many times before. I do have very much experience with this but, just not the fae or gnomes.

Of course you can try and communicate with the faes.

The reason I gave a bit of caution, is due to what I have learned from my experiences with them.

They may be different for you, but then again they may be tricky.

I mention this only so you have an idea of some things to expect, if they aren't exactly as they are portrayed in fairy tales.

As long as you begin slow, respectfully and have protections in place, and have learned at least some cleansing and banishing techniques to have at the ready just in case you need them, I see no reason you can not begin to attempt to work with them.

I wish you well!

Blessings.
