Hi! Question about stones
By:
Hello there friends.

I am starting to get really involved in the spiritual material world; which means, acquiring crystals, stones and other items to get my thing going.

Candles, incense, herbs and essential oils are the meal of the day. I don't need any advice about it, but if you want to share some knowledge with me, feel free.

I have a basalt stone and a citrine stone. What spiritual properties do they exactly have and, should I charge them everyday for them to have their full effect?

I will be awaiting for replies.

Blessings!

There is an excellent website that speaks to the metaphysical properties of a wide variety of stones and crystals at https://www.gemstone7.com/

I don't think you need to cleanse and charge your stones daily, but you should do it at least once a month if you are using them frequently. I would definitely cleanse and charge any new stone I might acquire. There are a number of ways to cleanse and charge a stone depending on whether a the stone can be placed in salt water or not.

Thank you for your reply! Yes, I even have a spell of my own to purify and cleanse objects of any sorts from negativity and curses. And it uses salt and water, just like you said!

Some crystals will dissolve in salt water. That's why it is useful to have an alternate way of purifying them.

Basalt I am not terribly familiar with, but citrine is about attracting abundance, usually associated with wealth. I find that it helps with any thing you want to draw to yourself, and can be nudged towards other things like attracting positivity or learning opportunities.

Being a variation of quartz... particularly, it is quartz that has been exposed to heat- either suddenly or gradually- to a level that it has become discolored. Natural citrine tend to be a paler, amber-ish smoky color while artificially 'cooked' ones tend to be a darker orange or black-ish orange color.

My favorite resource is from a book (or I guess book series now) called 'The crystal bible' by Judy Hall. Each edition is a collection of stones and minerals listed alphabetically, each with some geological information, where they are found, their spiritual associations, and a general blurb about working with them. Usually it is all compressed into about two pages per stone but the information is well packed and organized. Any of the books, from the 'pocket' books (that are way too thick to fit in any pocket I've seen) to the full-size hard cover, desk-crushing tomes are all a worthwhile investment.

As for care, as a general rule, single points of most Crystals should be cleansed/recharged on occasion. Frequency depends on how often you put them to work, so to speak. It can be as simple as putting the crystal on a moderately sized quartz cluster in the sunlight for a day, or under a full moon for a night, or both. Running water or salt water also works for stones that are non-reactive.

Smudging is also a useful way to cleanse. Or burying the crystal in earth outside for a few days, preferrably in an area with lots of life like a garden. Anointing a crystal with empowered oil can do as well. Or, get yourself a few pieces of blue kyanite(cheap but powerful), herkimer diamond(slightly less cheap but also powerful), or if you are fortunate (and can afford it) some Moldovite which is not at all cheap, but really potent. Place the stone you want to cleanse with any of these touching and just let them do their magic.

One intense treatment I know of, if a stone is seeming to need serious TLC, is to take several steps. First smudge the stone, bathe in salt water, or bury it in salt to clear the energy. Then anoint the crystal in a personally sacred oil, and drip candle wax one drop at a time onto the crystal until completely coated. Next place the (now effectively sleeping) crystal into rich soil or a silk bag for two weeks or one month. Or longer as desired. Then take back the crystal, clean off the wax (do not melt it off, heat is bad), and place it in direct sunlight from dawn through to the next dawn on a full-moon night. When done you should have a squeaky clean, purified and empowered crystal.

I've read from a couple sources that basalt is a strength and courage stone.

I've also read it to help with grounding and dreamwork. It is closely associated with fire being a lava stone.

Personally I'd utilize it in feng shui to bring passion or drive to an area. Perhaps good for attracting power as well or even as a means of moving stagnant energy much like how a hot foot powder would help to get an individual moving. A like concept. That is only my personal take on basalt what I'd consider using it for.

Would also make an interesting offering for hearth and other fire dieties, I suppose.

Strong, brave dieties as well may work along with this stone.

Some things to think about.
