Okay to consume life?

Suppose you are in such a situation that to live normally, and at only a fraction of what you feel your full limits are, you have to constantly shorten the life spans of those around you. Is it okay to shave possible months or years off thousands of peoples' lives so that you might continue to live or would it be better to weaken and wither?

That's complete fluff and not possible, I suggest you do some reading on what magic is and how it actually works

This sounds fluffy but I would say it is stealing from them so probably unethical. If you can get them to give it to you willingly it is probably fine. Again not that I believe this.

Fortunately such a thing is not possible to do with spells or magic, so you aren't going to find yourself in such a terrible situation. Further, you don't need the life energies of others to live fully.

That being said, I personally would find taking energy which shortens the life span of others simply need to steal the life energy of others to be a terribly selfish act. In effect you are stealing from them as they have not granted you permission to do this thing.

In a place where people might claim to contact demons, cast spells of any sort, gather knowledge and power from shiny rocks/minerals, or even curse others, this is where you draw the line?
In nearly every facet of life and the greater world there are anomalies that operate far beyond standards, for better or for worse. Is it so odd to think that someone may have to shave off unnoticeable moments of the end of others for their own means? In any case the primary exercise was just asking a question of morality though seeing the closed-mindedness of a community as such is enlightening in itself.

It's not a matter of being close minded. It's the truth, even if it's not what you want to hear. Metaphysics has limits. By claiming the impossible to be possible, you lie and mislead others. Newer members who are at the beginning of their journey and don't know what is and is not possible can easily be mislead.

Legitimate metaphysics exists in the realm of neither provable nor disprovable. A lot of the results achieved can be chalked up to coincidence. You did a money spell, you find twenty dollars. Was it the spell or were you just lucky?

It yielded results, so you tell me. But you are a human, humans cannot leech someones life force. That's something a vampire would do and those aren't even real when you look into their origins.

Stating impossible things like what you have stated or things like spells to make you fly or whatnot are fake and we can prove those. A lot of misinformation can be harmful as it can endanger the safety of others. In lesser cases, they believe nonsense and continually try it.

They don't get any results, get discouraged and give up. Not only that, but it's annoying to members who do know what they are doing to see fake stuff in excess drowning out legitimate content. That, and it makes a mockery of legitimate practices.

Again, it was primarilly a question of morality. The concept however is as applicable as the process of the money spell you mention in being that it counts on someone's loss for your gain. To that same end nothing I noted is outside practices; Ouija, tarot, love spells, using a crystal ball(or other gems), or spells of bad luck and misfortune. You might also realize I never said anything about it being a spell. But, say that it is. It could simply be the act of using the energy from those around you, as some people attune to naturally, but taken to an extreme. To follow the same standard it can never really be proven or disproven, did they die naturally or was it accelerated by seconds, minutes, et cetera while someone else lived those moments longer in their stead.

Humans are constantly changing their constants that are accepted by the world populous as fact. Not to say flying is possible, but I guess I need to ask now, why would anyone claim to know the extent of what magic, spells and metaphysics(in our, here, less textbook use) is capable of?

No one can assure what magic is capable of, that's for sure.
I think that however one should understand that having so many new practitioners around we need to be careful what we assert is possible or not in order to avoid being misleading for them.
However, I cannot help but agree that sometimes magic seems to be limited to meditation and less more than that for some. I think it goes far beyond what we can imagine, and we should not limit ourselves and others just to try and say only what is proven.

Considering op says its a theoretical question theres no need to argue possible or impossible.

Frankly i think though that if a vampiric being as described above had to constantly take from people the people they are taking from should be willing donors of their time, not having it taken away from them sneakily.

Otherwise, its best to learn how to take your power from a different source or deal with the lot youve been given.
