Grimoire Submissions
By: / Novice

For sake of ease, Grimoire in this thread refers to the three categories of content that can be submitted in the form of spells, rituals/articles, and videos on Spells of Magic.

The Codex refers to the stickied thread that serves as a first-impression directory of Natural Magick overall.

What are Spells?

In this context, it is a technique that can be defined for spiritual or magical purposes towards a desired outcome.

What do Rituals and Articles refer to here?

The same format is applied to two fronts - rituals, which are more involved techniques, and articles, which are pieces of writing aimed at conveying information and opinions.

What's the deal with Videos?

Some covens list a different number of videos than is able to be accessed and we are unsure of why at the moment. See the Codex for details of our group YouTube and Tumblr accounts as video submissions are handled separately.

Grimoire Rules

Originally compiled by Katahdin, this thread is a result of continuing her work.

Legality

Proper Citation - This section is currently being discussed.

No Plagiarism - Subject to forfeit of membership in the very least, unless the content is clearly stated to be common knowledge and/or historical representation.

No Illegal Activities - Also subject to forfeit of membership, in the least. Different regions have different laws, so as a general rule, do not suggest something illegal where you live.

Claims

Plausibility - A commonly accepted standard is to back up claims involving areas of science (such as feats humans are known not to possess) with evidence. It is often considered unwise to make such claims without evidence.

Beliefs - Everyone has 'em and they're all going to be different. Please be respectful of this when writing and keep in mind to judge people upon their behavior rather than their ideas.

Facts vs. Opinions - A fact is an instance where all variables are isolated enough to be identified and a single process to be repeated with the same results every time. Theories are also respected as facts, such as knowing gravity is real.

An opinion is an interpretation of different instances and variables. They are personal to each of us, and while they may be our truths, they are not facts. Do not misrepresent opinions as facts.

Adding Articles & Rituals

Ritual & Article Format

------------------------------------------

[Name / Title] - capitalize responsibly

[Summary] - one or two sentences suffices

[Body of Work] - where your ritual or article is written

[Toggle Privacy] - public or coven-only

------------------------------------------

Articles and Rituals are alphabetized on a single page.

If you have troubles deciding whether a technique should be posted as a spell or a ritual, simply ask. As a general rule, spells are smaller pieces while rituals are more involved.

Articles should have sources cited if they are informational - if they express opinion, this must be made clear in the summary at the beginning of the piece.

AstralHorse's Submission

Original Content by the user AstralHorse

------------------------------------------

Faithfulness

[A simple binding chant aimed at romantic relationships.]

cumin
picture of yourself and your significant other
box or container

Sprinkle the cumin on the picture and visualize the strength of the bond between the couple while chanting, "Let it be until unbound that my lover only cherish me. So will I share in bind to keep no other on my mind. "

Afterwards, put the picture in the container and cover it, occasionally refocusing the energy as felt is needed.

------------------------------------------

I took liberties with this one because the user is no longer here and this serves merely as an example. When posting a submission, please specify if you are open to changing anything about the spell or if you simply want the quality of the writing checked.

The original name was Keep Your Lover Faithful and had no summary. The original chant was "My lover shall and now is to be, only now to give love to me so mote it be. (it shall be done)"

If this were to be edited purely for writing quality, it would look something like, "My lover shall and now is to be the only one to give love to me. So mote it be / it shall be done." End the chant however is felt best.

Protection Bag Submission

Original Content by KrazyKendra

------------------------------------------

Protection From Harm

A crystal sachet for spiritual safety.

Black Cloth Bag
3 Black Crystals
3 White Crystals
Purple Crystal
Red Crystal

Set this bag with all of the ingredients in your window sill or outside. Leave it sitting there for a day to charge with energy from the sun and moon. Keep this on you or in your room, renewing it every month. This bag can stave off bad spirits, bad energies, and some bad curses that head your way.

------------------------------------------

Most of the grammar was fine. I added a summary, changed the title, and otherwise reworded some things that got too redundant or didn't flow well.

Herbal Mixture Submission

Original content by countdown

------------------------------------------

[Yo, this needs a name]

This is a [Wiccan] spell that you may use with different elementals to cast a circle or cleanse an area. You may also use this as a recipe for a cleansing spray.

1/4th tsp lemon oil or juice
1/4th tsp sea salt
Incense ash (optional)
2 sprigs rosemary
1 tbs dried sage
1 tbs dried sasil
3 bay leaves
1 cup boiled water
glass bowl
2 smaller glass bowls
spoon, wand or athame
storage jar
glass spray bottle (optional)

Gather all herbs, ingredients and supplies, then start boiling the water. Once the water is boiled, pour it into one of the smaller bowls and combine all other ingredients in the other. Then, combine the two bowls into the larger one, or a measuring cup with a spout if this will be a spray. Stir the ingredients and water together, focusing your energy while doing so. Chant this,

"Goddess, Goddess, So mote it be.
Cast your blessing unto me.
I use this mixture in your name
To clear all negativity away."

After stirring and chanting, let the mix steep until it is cool. Once cool, store in a water-tight jar or strain and pour in a spray bottle. Now you can use it on your house, yourself, your altar or anywhere you like.

)O( Blessed Be!

------------------------------------------

Great job on this one! Only minor grammatical details were edited.

You may also want to consider placing this under rituals.

Writing Form

Clear & to the Point - Never assume how familiar an audience is with what content you write or words you use. Simple English is often easier on everyone.

Spelling & Grammar - Please check over your work before submitting it here and it will be checked again in peer review. See the Codex for instructions on how to use the website's programmed checkers for use with HTML editing.

Formatting - This is used to visually break up the flow of writing and guide the eye along a path in order to make it easier for a person to read. HTML editing can aid in this (see the Codex for how), though avoid over usage as that can inhibit legibility.

When Adding Content

Toggle Privacy - For content to be featured on the main page, it must be set to Public so it can be reviewed by the site's Editors and approved by Publishers. If your preference is to add it solely to the coven, select Private [titles and summaries are still shown] .

Existing Content - To avoid unnecessary repetition in content, please view the Grimoire to see if we have content like it already. It is perfectly okay to add something similar if you would like to add your method or opinion (and is encouraged).

Personal Meaning vs. Regurgitation - Arguably one of the most important aspects of the Grimoire is that it reflects each member who adds to it, and ultimately, Natural Magick as a whole.

If all you desire is to compile techniques, information, and opinions, then it is better to direct people to links than copy/paste information. If the content means something to you, or is your own personal take on a matter, you are encouraged to share if that is something you are comfortable doing.

Accepting a Difficult Situation

To be able to accept people and actions in a certain situation in the past, and to have the ability to move on.

Paper

Writing Utensel

Fireproof area where you can freely burn something without risk

Cast a circle around you, your paper and your writing utensel. Clear your mind and relive the exact situation you wish to be able to move on from. Think of your emotions during the time, and anything you felt physically, whether pain or pleasure related. Keep these memories in the front of your mind when saying the spell. Speak clearly and say - "Let the powers of the universe open my mind, let them travel to my memories of a harsher time. This event will no longer be the anchor attached to my life, nor the pain similar to which is caused by a knife. Acceptance is in my soul and let forgiveness take its toll. By the power of three times three, so mote it be."

Alright, I have had time to read it and I have some good edits I think you'll really like. The reason I put it under banishing instead of trust spells is one, I don't see how trust is being applied. However, it is banishing negative energy as well as bringing inner peace, so that makes more sense.

Accepting a Difficult Situation

To be able to accept people and actions in a certain situation in the past, and to have the ability to move on.

  • Paper
  • Writing Utensel
  • Fireproof Area
  • Match or Lighter

Cast a circle around yourself and your tools. Clear your mind and relive the exact situation you wish to be able to move on from. Think of your emotions during that time and anything you felt physically, whether it be pain or pleasure related. Keep these memories in the front of your mind when saying the spell.

Speak clearly and say, "Let the powers of the universe open my mind, let them travel to my memories of a harsher time.
