It's not so much types, as there are myriad traditions, none of which must be followed for a person to practice magic. That is, a person may choose a tradition, may choose to learn from several traditions, or may choose their own thing (not that it can just work; it still takes work with effort and dedication).
What does and does not work with magic is more often the desired objective. If it is impossible without magic, it is generally not very likely at all with magic.
I'm not talking about things like encouraging love. Love can bloom from unexpected places. I mean more things such as levitation, teleportation, becoming something other than human, growing limbs, altering body parts, and the like.
Lighting a candle and chanting some script found online will not make money appear in your bank account. But raising and releasing energy towards better finances might possibly open the door to encountering a better job, or success in asking for a raise.
Hello! There is no such thing as type of magik there are more like schools or beliefs , which define a particular way of practice . They all " work " if your inner world resonates well with the ways defined by the system chosen .
If I'm interpreting your question correctly, I would say the spells and rituals that don't work are things that make superhuman claims like teleportation spells, shape changing spells, spells that turn you into anything that is not human, time travel spells, etc. These "spells" are not witchcraft and are not real. Anything along those lines is just fluff.
