What brands of make up do you like best?
...Cheap? If it's at Walmart or a dollar store I probably have it. I like really kiddy brand like Lipsmackers and just about anything from Claire's. Ughhh, I love all thing kawaii~ I also really like anything made by Milani because they all have gold packaging and I am addicted to anything gold.
What empties do you have this year?
Yes, several actually. One liquid pump foundation, a powder compact foundation, a light pink lipgloss that was vanilla scented and a baby pink eyeshadow. I think there might be a few more but those are the ones I can think of at the moment.
Do you prefer using your fingers or tools?
Tools for everything. I never use my fingers. I know they can help with the warmth of the fingers but both with magick and all things I need an excess of tools or it just doesn't feel right to me. I need to complicate things and make it fancy needlessly.
When it is a choice between powder and liquid which do you go for?
Both with foundation. I do liquid, consealor, then powder on top. With blush I have only ever used powder but I am very interested to use cream. I see a lot of Korean and Japanese tutorials using creams which look more natural and youthful. For eyeshadow I can go either way but again end up using powder more often.
When it is a choice between brush or sponge which do you prefer using?
Brushes, I use them for everything but my primer which I use a sponge for. I used to use a sponge pad for my liquid foundation too but I find a dense fiber brush works better. I might use a sponge for liquid brush to stamp it in when I get there though. I use the pad that comes with compacts for touch ups because it's already there and more convient.
Do you bother with primer and setting spray or translucent powder?
I just started using my primer for the first time the last time I did my make up. I used setting spray the last two times for the first time. So I started using both recently. I never did in high school though. Not sure if they weren't out or I just didn't know better? I'm not that old so could be either. I don't bother with them unless I'm doing something fancy and going to be out for a while though.
Do you bother contouring and adding highlight?
Yes, this I always do and started doing this year. Even when going subtle I still add a little natural bit to my face. It only takes like an extra minute so I don't see why not. At the point everything is already so natural looking I want to add a little extra zazz to make something pop ya know?
What is your signature look?
Well, in high school it used to be heavy dark blue or purple eyeshadow with red or black eyeliner and clear lipgloss. These days I opt for a more natural light pink, lavender, white eyeshadow look with a fair colored blush and chapstick or cleap lipgloss. I haven't done heavy make up in so long I feel like a clown so just really self concious. I'm not used to looking like that anymore.
Do you more often go for natural/subtle or full glam/outrageous?
Natural these part few years. It's because a few years back when I started working at Walmart we could only have light make up to be professional. I would get up early to do it because I felt too ugly not to. But with how much my feet hurt after a while I didn't bother anymore. When I started working at Safeway I would do it sometimes too.
With nail polish, do you do the top and base coat?
Yes, always. I ran out one time like a year ago and would just apply nail polish. But the problem with that is it doesn't look as nice, chips quicker, and when it comes off it leaves your nails looking yellow. It's not going to give you like cancer or anything but it's not really good for your nails either.
Have you ever used green tea nail polish to help them grow?
Yes, but I do it more for the nail health because I get ingrown nails a lot which are painful. It also leaves my bare nails looking so beautiful and healthy. So sometimes I just do that and lotion up my hands to keep them soft and smelling nice. I also scratch at a bar of soap to get some under my nails to clean them. I clip and keep mine short.
Have you ever gotten fake nails?
Yes, I once got a manicure and peticure at my local mall. I got this indigo terquise color which I didn't super like as it was a blue green shade. Which I like blue a lot and green sometimes but never should the two meet in my opinion. But, it was free so whatevs. I got nail tips and had her paint over the whole thing that color. My sister once tried putting on fake nails but she kept shoving them up against the skin breaking it which really hurt so now I can only do tips. Even then, only short ones.
What about a professional mani-peti?
The peticure I got with the manicure wasn't great either as the lady was unable to communicate with me since she didn't speak good English. I asked fun cresent moons on my fingers and suns on my toes which were painted red. So she just painted yellow flowers on my feet instead. It's really frustrating when someone cannot understand you as the customer which means they are unable to do their job effectively.
Is make up a rare occasion or a daily thing for you?
It's been pretty rare for me these past few years since when I was working I'd almost never ever do it because I was always too sore and tired. But I have been getting back into it a little bit more this year. It's still not daily but maybe weekly or at least bi-weekly at this point. Which is very nice. The good part about not wearing it for so long is I got used to my natural face.
Did your parents ever age restrict make up for you growing up?
When I was really little I'm talking under ten years old my mother was still alive. My father would buy me some make up from the dollar store to have fun with or the little girls toy make up kits. My mother would always take it away from me and tell me I was too young. I never understood because to me it was just fun face paint. Like getting a cat painted on your face. But she would tell me I was not allowed to wear it until I was at least sixteen. I started when I was thirteen since she died before then making her unable to police when or where I wear it.
Have you ever had a friend do your make up?
Yes, in middle school I went over to my sisters house and our mutual friend Raven did my make up and hair. The hair was done like Misa Misa style pigtails and the make up was blue eyeshadow for the first time, my favorite! My dad said it looked good so funny enough he never cared or saw a problem with me wearing it. I also had my bestfriend and girl crush Asia do my make up and hair the same way for my at the time boyfriend's birthday party.
Have you ever done someone elses make up?
Yes! I have done my sisters hair and make up, my middle school bestfriend's make up Olivia, and my waifu's hair and make up several times. Olivia's mom as rude and terrible to me as she was did pay me one very nice compliment saying I do my make up very well and she wouldn't have a problem with her daughter wearing it if she could apply it like me lol.
How do you feel about a lot of jobs not allowing make up or not much of it?
I don't think it'd right. Same with tattoos and dyed hair. Unless the tattoo is a cuss word or a naked woman or something of course. It's it just like a flower it should not be a problem as it is not obscene in any way. Hair being whatever color, why does that trigger old people? Why is my eyeshadow or lipstick so offensive? Even for piercings unless it's like food service I don't see the issue. With food service their is a risk of it falling out. You're not even supposed to wear any kind of jewelry as it is a safety hazzard. Could drop in the food, get a necklace caught in a machine, ring could go down the drain, etc. It just seems like old people are too conservitive and get butthurt by everything.
