They can be just be energy, but it helps you to work with and solidify their presence when you give them a body, and many people give the body a home. The body being mobile in the sense you can move it from place to place and the home being a more permanent resting place.

A servitor is a created spirit. They are independent of the magician's will and can act intelligetly, unlike thoughtforms which are bound to the magician.
