It can cause harm to another. It is invoked by indignation. It is to be used to bring down justice on someone who wronged you. And like the previous comment, it will do what you want it to if it falls under the laws of nature we abide by.
It depends on your setup if you have a strong spell it can manipulate anything within the laws of physics you so don't expect something like the target's hand magically fading you can however cause events to occur that are in the laws of physics like getting an illness can happen if you inflict a well prepared spell but be prepared for any consequences as in build up protection for if the curse is redirected or if the curse becomes negative karma for you(that's the worst possible outcome)

A curse is only used as a LAST resort. When everything else has failed. When speaking to the person, involving law enforcement what ever the choices. When all that has failed and there is no other option.

Depending on the curse it could be anything from a broken pencil to a house fire, sickness, loss of job, or even death. It really comes down to your energy and both parties belief that one was cursed. If you curse someone who doesn't believe in curses, they may feel some 'bad luck' But it will fade without the victim feeding extra negative energy into the curse. If your victim believes in curses they could worry so badly they make the curse stronger.

Magick resides in you and within your capability. What one person can accomplish and how they gain their results will not be the same as you. Magick is first and foremost about developing your own internal skills and strengths and THEN using them to manifest change around you.
So you ask a loaded question who's answers will lead to disappointment. Witchcraft is about making your own road, finding your way through the trials and tribulations of dedication, practice and experience. Every one of us is unique and therefore even though we may share ways, we all have our own style based on our strengths and weaknesses.
