The Summer Solstice is in deed is the celebration of the sun's return. It's when the mother goddess celebrate her husband's return, that is one of thoughts.

Hey, when exactly is Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice?

I want to say that the winter solstice is December 21st. Not to sure bout summer one.

Just realized she said it in first post. Did not know Litha was the summer solstice.

Even if you're in the southern hemisphere you have your holidays mixed up. Yule [the winter solstice] is the longest night of the year. While different paths believe different things [the God is reborn, the Holly King is defeated by the Oak King] Yule is the celebration of the suns return, along with longer days and summer. [Aka the light defeating the darkness as you said] Litha is the opposite [the God grows weaker, the Oak King is defeated by the Holly King] and from the summer solstice onward the days grow shorter and colder. [Aka the darkness defeating the light as you would put it] You are correct on it being a sun celebration since most people celebrate outside.
