Even the safest driver gets into an accident at least once in every 5 years. Some people pray before they drive. And ask for a safe arrival to their destination. Sometimes its faith that gets you to where you need to be.
Yes, that's life. There's always a risk of getting into an accident every time you're out on the road. But it seems you already knew the answer to your question.

blackcat made some good points, just be safe, and don't do distracting things like texting. [drives me nuts when people do that]
life is a risk, you've just got to accept it, and try not to let fear run your life. i did read in a Cunningham book about a simple protection spell for cars. visualize a pentagram on the bottom of your car [hood and four tires would make the points] and a white light surrounding it. whenever you can, visualize it, or feel it's energy keeping you safe. just remember, a spell won't 100% protect you from someone who runs a red and hitting you, but it should stop the person from t-boning your car and killing you.
One more thing, I went to a wiccan store today and saw an auto/car protection charm that you hang in your car. I believe it was $15, im sure you can find one online.

i'm sure you could do the same thing by hanging any protection charm from your mirror, as long as you charge it with energy and believe it will protect you it should work. doesn't matter if you hang it in a car or a house.
You need to empower it with your intent. For example, if you had a ring that you wished to be empowered with protective energies you would visualize and feel it glowing with that power/energy. You could even say a small chant or verse as you do this.
It's also a good idea to cleanse the item before charging it.
The processing of charging the item usually only takes a few minutes, and you should be able to feel if it is or isn't charged. Most of my items that I've done this with tend to give off an energy or a vibration, if that makes sense.

I have experienced excellent results with several items purchased from the shop. I make a combination of the oils and anoint the front and rear bumpers as well as the doors on both sides. I do this starting on the drivers side door and walking clockwise casting a protective circle as I walk around the entire car. I keep the aqua aura in the glove compartment and I have the safe travel sticker on a corner of the back windshield.
