I tried to do a truth spell two days ago to find why an ex was being so horrible towards me. I dont think the spell worked, if anything it might have made me a bit more emotional. Should I try a truth spell again? Or can someone suggest another spell that might work better?
Just a simple one with a picture of the person and a white candle. And then you chant to the wind spirit to uncover the things that do not want to be said.

Despite the low rating, that actually isn't too bad a spell if you're into repetitive chanting (I am).
Well first of all, if you didn't cast a circle first, that would probably be what went wrong. What you're doing with the chanting is two-fold; generating the energy you will use to actually make change in the world, and putting yourself into a magical mindset. But if you don't have a circle cast all that energy you're generating isn't contained and just sort of leaks away like water with nothing to hold it.
Second, you might not be the repetitive chanting sort. Sometimes the reason a spell does or does not work really does just sort of boil down to personal taste. If you find chanting boring, the chanting part of the spell probably won't work, and this logic applies to pretty much every part of every spell. Once you have more experience you'll know what kinds of things to look for and avoid in a spell.
Finally, you should do something to seal the spell (officially send it on its way), because this is what will focus and direct all that energy you've generated. Once you feel like you've done enough chanting you should say an affirmation like, "By the Full Moon (ex's name) will reveal to me the truth about (whatever you're asking about)." Remember that even if the spell works, it's not going to make your ex go insane and behave very strangely - he will still obviously need the opportunity and incentive to tell you whatever it is (he's not just going to barge in and tell you for no apparent reason).
I'm not sure why it wants you to extinguish the candle at the end of the ritual, but if you do you should snuff it out by capping something over it or by pinching it or some way that isn't your breath. Some people will tell you not to fan it out either, so I extinguish them by covering them, just to be sure. I would suggest leaving the candle burning if possible. I would say it would ideally burn until you ask your question, but even if you can just let the candle keep burning while you do other, non-magical things nearby where you can keep an eye on it that would probably help.
