Why?

I have recently noticed that coven memberships are waning downwards, I am wondering why the leaders are allowing this to happen to a nice coven on here. I feel that this covens should find new leaders or they risk delition from the site.

Covens which are in trouble:

  • Vampire Elegance
  • Shadows of Solitary Witches
  • Practical Witches
  • The Dark and Light
  • The Twisted Nether
  • Acquaintance with Darkness
  • The Broom Closet
  • The Seven Dove
  • Twilight Vampire

I just wished for all people to note this information. If anyone who has been here is able to revave one of these covens go for it.

Dark Blessings,

Lady Raven Darkstar

I've notice this problem too, my coven's members keep drop and gain, thou we're still posting lessons but it's not as active as I hope it to be, there's a saying "You can take a horse to the river but you cannot make it drink out it" =D we can threaten members to remove them if theyre inactive but it wouldnt make a difference if they dont care.

Being a coven leader is a big responsibility and it doesnt come easy, Im sure the HP/S of these coven are having a hard time keeping it together too.

You'll never catch me calling myself the best priest around and indeed I find the title somewhat pretentious, but I am personally of the opinion that I'd rather have a smaller coven of people worth having than a larger coven of folks that I can't stand working with.

I'm quite happy with the folks who are in Higher Magick. If we get more? Good. If not? Just as good.

Positive growth is a good thing. Negative growth is a tumor.

I've noticed this in Vampiric Elegance, and I'm a bit worried. I like this coven and the individuals within it and I don't want to see it grow inactive. I think one of the main issues with our coven is that a good portion of the members are students in one form or the other and so not many of us have the time to be on everyday, but we do what we can. I and the others post new threads when we can, however.

I personal wish to help Vampiric Elegance but am unable to do so because I can be on everyday. The Priestess has not been on to add new members or update people to council position. This is important to me and I am willing to join.

It's called stagnation. It's what happens when things are slow moving for some time. The truth is the problem is going to be with the people leading the covens. I tried to point out that, in excluding anyone from starting "anything" new, you are assuring a slow death to those few covens that do exist. At least that is the case when the people running them may or may not be good leaders. If no one is joining or participating, well the reason lies with the leaders, simple.

Magustaus02, I find if New Coven were to be created, People will have more of a selection and members could be happier. I see a lot of members leaving the site because they can't find a coven. I coven recently closed membership. Now think of how that narrows the groups down.

Thanks, you have proven my point. Limiting things creates exclusivity, which leads to even further stagnation, as fewer and fewer people can join. Add to that the fact that no one can start a coven, well you end up with problems in membership.

I think such things should be like capitalism. If you have a good product, people will buy it, if not, they will go to the other guy and buy from him. Limiting peoples choices and telling them "This is all we have, if you don't like it, too bad there is no where else to go", seems like a bad idea to me.

Best to give people the chance to find what they want, and if they can't, then they should have the chance to create it. Limiting things so and basically "imposing" choices, (which is what you are doing when you remove the ability to create new choices) is never a good idea. It makes for an exclusive environment that limits free trade and effectively kills off most of the back and forth that such free trade creates. Be it goods, or ideas, the same concepts apply really.

Best to let people choose who will sink, and who will swim, not tell them the choice has been made for them, so live with it. I say let anyone start a coven. If you are good as a leader and a teacher, people will join, if not, they won't. Or maybe you will get a lot of fluffy bunny types, so what. They are here already, and spread nonsense without boundaries already.

This won't happen though as it give undesirables a voice the site may not want them to have ;) That would be non long time members who have opinions, ideas the mods may or may not agree with. Who decided what covens were, and were not to be deleted? Like I said, stagnation. Just my two cents worth. Bye bye.

"Who decided what covens were, and were not to be deleted?"

Pet did, as well as coven creators.

There were rules in place when creating the covens. It had to be grammatically correct in all areas of the application, it had to have a minimum of 13 members by a designated time and it had to be about actual magick as opposed to fluffy non-sense. I don't recall seeing a coven deleted because of the 13 member rule though.

There is a long thread where people were incapable of getting past the first hurdle. It's not to much to ask that you present yourself with intelligence when asking for a coven, that you claim you can run and teach in, to be created.

A coven Priest or Priestess also has the option to ask Pet to delete the coven. This happened a few times and can be done today. Ultimately, it's up to Pet whether or not to do it.
