Can I be a catholic christian and still do spells and write spells and have my own book of shadows? or will the spells not work for me?

The book of shadows is more a Wiccan tradition, but I think you can be a Christian and use magic. A fancier term for mage is thaumaturge, meaning miracle-worker, a word that originally referred to the miraculous works of Christian saints. Catholicism has a lot of tradition and ceremony, so you may be more comfortable with ceremonial magic like the Goetia and Enochian. As for the spiritual part of it, you may want to look into theurgy. I've read on another board, the closer you are to God, the more the devils will want to get at you-- so not only will the spells work but you'll learn to work stronger ones. Only thing is, if you name yourself as a Christian, then all magic must be done by His grace, through you but not because of you. If you're concerned with the spells are working for you , then it's kind of worshipping yourself before God and that won't work. I've heard many stories from people gifted by God with powers like healing, and having it taken away because they got proud of it.
