I know this might sound stupid to ask, but I'm drawing a blank and rather ask then find out the hard way. So here it is.

Do incense and candles, when used properly of course and not directly under them, set off smoke detectors?

Are you sure? I've used excess and never set it off...oh wait I don't have a smoke detector in my room

Candles no but incense could if the detector is a high intense one.
