exactly. As long as everyone knows what it means it terms of intent, but also keeps in mind that is is not an unfalsefiable description, then the problem of what type of magic you call it has a verifiable potential of becoming very much moot. :)
As others have said, magic is magic in any form. It has no color. The intent of the user determines if the outcome will be positive or negative.
I practice both positive and negative magics, or beneficial and harmful as some prefer to call it, and I have not had this problem. (I like a balance of forces in my life). Also, I doubt that the individual would ''be in hell forever.'' If one is cautious and shows respect when working with any type of magic the outcome will be positive. I say this from personal experience. I would;however, advise beginners to wait until they had more experience before they contacted a demon.
My opinions and from my own personal experience along with known facts;
Dark magick dear, is magick that is literally dark. It is to do with shadows, night time, darkness in general etc...
I'm not talking about color here, I speak of lack of light.
It's not evil magick or demon summoning or so on nonsense.
I am night-kind, "night-kind" is a form or derivative if you will, of wiccanism; I also specialize in dark magick. Don't sit there and tell me it could cause you eternal damnation. First of all, ''Hell'' is in Christianity, Muslim, Judaeism sepcifically known as ''Hell'' (not underworld, not the abyss etc...). Those religions don't even believe in much less support ''dark magick'' so why would it cause you to go there? Rhetorical questions because it doesn't.
Light and Dark are not equivalent to White and Black. White and Black are part of the light spectrum (being colors). There is the argument that White and Black are absence and inclusion of all color, but there is a different between black paint and the lack of light in a room. Similarly, white paint is different than light. Light and Dark magick can be alternative names for magick done in the day and at night, or invoking the Sun and moon. Both strong light and intense darkness are blinding, but you can see black and white perfectly fine.
So it's really a case of 3 sets of terms?:
"Black and White"
"Dark and Light"
"Harmful and Beneficial"
Black and White could easily spur some kind of racial dispute if the person is into that kind of stuff. If you look at it from another view point, they are saying Black is dark, sinister, evil while White is helping, good for you, and healing. lol. Just thought I'd bring this up as I've had a few question me about this.
As you can see from the other poster, that Dark and Light do not necessarily have a specific meaning. It could mean good or bad (matter of perspective) or it could literally mean Dark or Light.
Since no one has argued about harmful or beneficial yet, I'd say this is the best fit until we happen to come upon another term that is "the most correct."
I wouldn't personally agree with your suggestion of racial dispute, most people on here have a strong sense in the difference.
Although, you present a good case.
Black just because it's darker just like darkness itself as I suggested does not mean evil.
Along with white and light do not necessarily mean good.
White magick can be used for evil just as black magick can. The only difference between the 2 is the number of people the magick is used to effect.
If you having consequences from "dark" magick. I suggest you look deeper inside yourself. You are the caster so the magick is going to affect you and if you are dealing in dark magick the person you are casting against. I'm one who also doesn't believe in classifying magick in colors, it is in your heart whether you cast dark or light spells. Any spell depending on it its caster can have any affect. I truly believe that we classify spells by color so they are easier to find. If "dark" magick is leaving a mark upon your soul then meditate and figure out why. There is always a reason.
ok, since everyone else hits the nail on the head, this is for the dude who thinks hell means you can't practice magic. I am not condencending on you because that seems to be your belief structure, but, out of curiosity, what makes you think that someone believeing or knowing hell, the abyss, the underworld, or whatever you want to call it, exist means that they shouldn't practice magic? Personally it sounds as though you do not believe in anywhere but the here and now which brings up the question of why you would be trying to inforce your religion on others when, no doubt, you recieve enough criticism over it yourself.
