The fetish would be ceremonially fed and treated with respect,
believed to be alive. The Zuni also believed that if you treated your fetish badly, it would bring you bad luck.

One type of fetish is gris-gris (an essential element of voodoo) Gris-gris (pronounced "gree-gree") comes from the French word gris which means grey, hence a combination of black (negative) and white (positive) magic. In New Orleans, positive charms were called "juju," and negative were called "mojo" -- terms which emanated from African tribal beliefs. Gris-gris was the most powerful of all charms and also the most expensive, and it could be used for good or ill.

The two types of fetish that I can think of right now off the top of my head is Gris-Gris and Zuni

Gris-gris was a potion of herbs and natural or decaying matter, from the mundane to the bizarre, sometimes including powdered brick, ochre, cayenne pepper, fingernail clippings, human hair, and animal skin (usually reptilian) -- all tossed into a small leather bag. Thankfully, Do Not ingested this mixture, just worn around the neck with a string, It supposedly brought either good or bad luck, depending on what you believed in. The meanings of fetishes vary, from individual to individual

A Zuni fetish (or wemawe) is a carved object of an animal or revered god. The spirit power of a fetish is given to it by its owner. Fetishes have been made for personal use for centuries. Rocks whose shape naturally resembled animals or people were called "stone ancients" or Ahlashiwe, and served as the first fetishes. They were made of natural materials such as ivory, amber, turquoise, shell, alabaster, and onyx

Ooh-lala well My fetish involves pudding and...OOPS! sorry wrong kind of fetish ^^'
I admit it, my mind is totally in the gutter...

Well seriously it is feathers yeah i know it don't sound like much but if you think about it fetishes are simply sprit contained within a object and mine are crows and red tail hawk feathers (the hawk ones came in a spiritual manner) to me. and i'm sure these feathers have the animal energy in them

It is an object representing a god, spirit or personal symbol. They are commonly employed in primitive societies, and were prevalent in pre-dynastic Egypt

The Gris-Gris was Developed among the African-American slave culture in the southern United States. Generally they were charm bags filled with magical powders, herbs, spiuces, bones, stone, feathers, or other ingredients. Also gris-gris are used in voodoo magic. Similar charm bags are called resguardos, or ''protectors'' in Santeria

and Zuni Fetish is Animal spirits are at the center of Zuni fetishism. And there is a distinct ranking order among the various animals objects used. In example, the turquoise frogs (representing water, fertility and abundance) plus a larger frog at the bottom

Many pagan traditions honor a strong connection between animals and humans. Often seen as living closer and in more harmony with nature, animals were honored as helpers, teachers, messengers, ancestors and much more. A wide range of stories exist whereby animals passed sacred knowledge or teaching from the gods to man. To this day, many people continue to work consciously and unconsciously with animal energy. Some traditions pick a spirit guide, and others have your spirit guide select you.

A "familiar" is most often defined as an attending animal spirit, but can also refer to a spirit that inhabits an everyday item, like a ring or a lamp. The famous genie in the lamp from the Arabian Nights tales qualifies as a familiar. These spirits are assistants, usually in attendance to a practitioner of magic, a sorcerer or witch. Their energies can be both benevolent or malevolent, and they are historically sent out to do the bidding of those that command them.
Cats are a traditional familiar, perceived as the favored companion of witches, although dogs and birds are also commonly associated with the idea

One culture which worked heavily with animal energies were the Zuni tribe of North America. They believed that all things were
interconnected, with plants, animals and humans all being part of nature and the flow of seasons. Animal-shaped carvings were made, called "wemawe" which is translated as "fetish" in English. This object represented the spirit power of the animal which protected the owner. These sacred relics could be animals, birds or humanoid shapes, fashioned from stone, wood or any other natural materials

The fetish would be ceremonially fed and treated with respect,
believed to be alive. The Zuni also believed that if you treated your fetish badly, it would bring you bad luck
