Aw LdyGry, this is the first I have heard you speak ill of the dead. :( Well I understand not everyone is going to agree with everyone.

I am fond of Scott due to my first teacher recommending him for me and being so unsure of myself at the age of 13 it is what I needed. However it was also a different time and place than now, but I still think his words of wisdom are clear if you understand that it was not he that wanted to use "wicca" in place of witchcraft. (Oh the fighting that when on during the 80's between the council.)

Anyway I recommend him and also Patricia Telesco. If you are looking for other than happy folk like magic I suggest the classics. ;)

LOL, kts! Scott Cunnignham is not bad - he's just not my cup of tea. Actually if you're interested in Neo-Pagan magic, he's a classic author. I cut my teeth on his books, and it wasn't until much later that i turned way away from his system of magic and belief.

So maybe i take just a little of my diss back ;-)

Wow, Luzifer, this is really excellent post, with lots of great advice from everyone.
Its like everyone united to give great advice.
I also would say that meditation, chakra cleansing and strengthening, aura strengthening and to study alot, especially in the areas of magick that interests you, then go on from there and its true what Perdurbo said that you never stop learning.
I think that someone who feels that they're so knowledgable ,they don't need to learn anymore is a fool because they actually cut themselves off from further knowledge by their arrogance.

That's true and it also proves they aren't so knowledgeable for anyone who has really become informed in any field of magick has already figured out that there is endless knowledge therefore we never can know everything or even enough to say we shouldn't need to learn anymore.

another good way to get better at magick is madatation looseing everything in your ind and focesing on nothing this will need a comfortable posision.medatation stimulates the mind makeing it free for energy and focus of whant you whant to achev ming is from magick.so yes dont jump to creating fire or contaling an object.
you need an intenchen to use this magick.without that intenchen you carnt acheve it if its from getting a girl friend or sculpting a model.your energy and mind is everthing. and i am quit young am only been studying magick for a year.andi dont regret a single miniuit(sorry about spelling diclecsic)enyway when i moved my first object it was such a good feeling that i acheved my entenchen.learn to contral pi kie and all that and practice.

XCheri, you don't need to believe in a goddess to do magick. If you are Christian, continue worshiping God if that's what your heart tells you to do.

If you find a spell that asks you to ask or priase the goddess, subsitute your God in it instead. I promise it won't make a difference.

If you find your spells aren't working, yet you know your basics, it probably is because of the doubt you have for the different dieties commonly found in spells. You do NOT have to believe in any of them or worship them. Do your spells in the name of your own God and you may find things work better for you.

As far as if God will be mad at you....many Christian denomenations believe He would be. It doesn't mean it's true.
I personally think no god will be mad at it's creations for doing the best they can at leading a good life and worshiping said god in the way they feel most comfortable.

Keep in mind, spells are the same as prayers. You may add a few extra ingredients to the mix, but they are not different when any kind of higher being is involved.
