Getting Started

I'm new to the site, and new to Norse paganism. So, how should I get started?
I would like to work primarily with Loki, Thor, Fenrir, and Sif. I am only 13, and no one else in My family practices Witchcraft. As such, I can not truly set up an Altar or offer food/wine.
With this, is there any way that you know of (Prayers, Healing, Contacting the gods, ect.) that I can do to get started on my chosen path?

First, I would be careful of associating Norse paganism with witchcraft unless you are wanting to practice something similar to a mixture of Norse wicca. Norse pagans, in generally, don't usually consider what they do to be witchcraft.

The best way to get started is by reading up on all the lore, so that you are familiar with the stories of the Gods and who is who. If you haven't read the Prose and Poetic Edda, front to back, I recommend you start there. It is difficult reading at times, but it will tell you a lot about the deities in that pantheon. In Norse paganism, the goal is to build and form a relationship or bond with the deities you are wanting to work with. Due to that, I would suggest you read up on each of the deities you listed so that you can come to understand them, and their nature, before you approach them and begin your journey.

Here are some devotional shrines which you may find useful:

http://www.northernpaganism.org/shrines/thor/index.html

http://www.northernpaganism.org/shrines/sif/index.html

Each of those links will provide you with information regarding that deities background, what they accept or enjoy as offerings and devotionals, and provides extra resources and writings over the deities in question so that you can learn more about them.

If you have any questions, I personally include Loki and Fenrir in my workings and they are a big part of my devotional practice. I'd be happy to discuss this with you.

Thank you! I'll be sure to look into everything. I've read a lot of the 'myths', and am quite familiar with the Gods. However, I will read what you have mentioned.
Thank you again for the links~

Just another question, though.

How do I 'contact' the gods? I've read, in these forums, that Loki is like an older brother. But how did they talk to him to figure this out, or was it just from their practices?

They may have perceived him to be like a brother to them in their practice, but he can have any sort of relationship with you. For instance, I consider him to assume more of a fatherly role- and thus call myself Lokisdottir.

Contacting the Gods varies in methods. Some use projection (such as AP, faring forth, going under, pathwalking) as a means of communication between themselves and the deity of their chooses. You can communicate through prayer, or even just talking to them as you would a friend (depending on the deities). You can communicate through divination, scrying and several other methods.

As Personified said Norse Paganism and Witchcraft are not the same.
She pretty much beat me to it
but try to reach out to them by meditating on them dedicate some time to them by reading about them, praying or doing acts of service they would appreciate. I have always been in a similar position to you and have not got an altar. They won't be mad at you for that simply because you can't. Showing them your dedication is much more vital.
You've chosen quiet a mix their if you don't mind me asking what lead to that choice?
Also when you try to contact them don't close yourself off from all the other gods and goddesses that might try to contact you. Also there is no special way of doing this most of the time the gods I work with just came to me or I was lead to them. I didn't really sit down and say I want to work with ...

Loki is usually a good god to start off with when it comes to contacting them and then he may lead you to others.

you can mail me if you want any help or to ask questions

My choice of gods is different, yes, but it's not why I want to work with them. I would like to work with Loki because I've heard he's an easy-going god, and overall decent to work with. He seems like the god I could talk to and get along with. I want to work with Fenrir because he seems to have the same nature as I do, to where I could see working with him easily because we would stand on the same ground. Thor, well, he's a more difficult one to explain. I would like to work with him on the grounds of Bravery, He's a righteous god, and I myself want to be braver. I want to work with Sif because she's the Goddess of Fertility and good harvest, and I love to garden and plant fruits and vegetables, so she would help me with my gardening and help me make sure that my plants were okay and not rotten.

Thank you for your help, I've been meditating and reading a lot about them recently, and feel more at home when reading about them. I'm glad to know they appreciate it.

Nice I was just interested to know that. if you are interested in working with Thor on the grounds of bravery may I also suggest working with Tyr? You probably know him from the story about Fenrir. I'm glad you found it useful and good luck

I do remember Tyr, He's the God of Music, I believe? Fenrir bit off his hand, from what I do recall. He was trying to chain Fenrir up, and had great bravery in doing so. I will look into him, as well. He seems quite interesting, and I have heard he has a love for music. I would want to learn to play the guitar, which may please him.

Thank you once again!~
