Latin Name: Calendula officinalis

Medicinal Properties:

It can be used as an antiseptic, anti-fungal, and a stimulant. One of its main uses is to treat inflammation. However, it can also be used to treat bee stings and insect bites and small wounds when used as a salve. It can also be used to treat skin and stomach problems which include: eczema(when made into a salve), ulcers, cramps, colitis and diarrhea when used in an infusion. It can also treat fevers, boils, abscesses, vomiting, bruises, sprains, sore muscles, ringworm, athletes foot, rash, acne, and the problems associated with menstruation and menopause.

Side Effects:

It should be avoided my women that are pregnant and breastfeeding. It can also cause an allergic reaction, so test it on a small patch of skin before using it in larger quantities or ingesting it.

Uses in Magic:

It can be used in spells and rituals involving divination, psychic awareness, legal issues, love, attraction and the renewal of personal energies. If you wear a marigold flower to court it is supposed to increase the odds of a favorable outcome. If you place it under your pillow or your mattress it is supposed to grant you prophetic dreams. If placed under your mattress, according to folklore, it will make any dream that you dream come true. If you hang a garland of the flowers around the entrances to your home it is said to keep negative energies at bay.

Culinary Uses:

The petals can be used to flavor soups, fish, salad, and rice dishes. They have also been used in custards and puddings.
