So, I recently got quite the urges to look up stuff regarding Ars Goetia and Pseudomonarchia Daemonum. I always wondered about how we got those writings. Have you guys ever worked with one of the 69 / 72 demons in these books? I don't think I'm gonna interact quite a lot with those entities but these books left me with tons of questions.
For example, some of the names of the demons actually look like slightly distorted names of deities. Astaroth for example, could be traced back to Astarte, Asherah and Ishtar. I guess this must be one of the reasons some people intertwine Mesopotamian Paganism so deeply with Satanic themes. I mean, if you take upon consideration that Christianity itself calls the gods and goddesses demons, and that the books have a Christian base, this only makes sense.
However, does this mean that some of the entities enlisted in the books could be gods mislabeled and distorted as demons?
Sorry for the delirium. I would just like to know some experiences you people have had with those entities in the past. If you want to tell, of course.
