Athames

Hey Cobblefrost here, do I need a real athame knife to conduct a spell or can I use an ordinary knife that I can bless . If so do I need any special item to turn a knife into a holy athame.

An athame doesn't have to be that sharp as they are generally used for cutting energy, not cutting physical objects. Though if you're planning on cutting physical objects like string for cord magick and such you may want it sharp (I actually have a slightly sharpened Excaliber-themed letter opener. Sharp enough to cut string with effort but not enough to cut myself by accident). According to a podcast I've been listening to (either "Witch Yes!" or "The Witch Bitch Amateur Hour" an athame gets more powerful the more you use it as it connects to you and if further charged with energy through every use.


Short answer
It can be any knife, as long as you cleanse it beforehand and set the intention that it is now an athame. You don't have to worry too much about its power as they get more powerful the more you use them.
