Following Lark's lead, from her post in the Wicca forum, I thought having a thread to ask questions (not found in other posts or articles on the site) would be beneficial to our members. It is a way to both share knowledge and help out our newbies as well.

What magic or occult related questions do you have? Do you have a question that you just can't seem to find the answer to?

Let us know here!

Are there any exercises you recommend to help people reinforce their belief and help them reduce the negative thoughts they may have when working with magick?

Also. What resources would you recommend someone to research from and what helps develop daily study/meditation habits best for you?

Building off of that, what about various theories as to how magic actually works? The basics are pretty easy to understand. You cast a spell,, energy is put out into the universe, and hopefully stuff happens. But what about that in between stage? What's actually going on? How does that energy actually make anything happen?

Energy is everywhere, it's neither created nor destroyed, it can only change forms. Magic is the manipulation of energy to create or facilitate change. Just as the thoughts we have fire electrical current over synapse of the brain and nerve cells to create change within out body, our body's are emitting energy into the universe continually through our aura's. The energy during a casting is gathered, redirected and then released and sometimes this is done without the person realizing. This is why it's good to be mindful of ones' thoughts, words, and actions. When the energy is released it is going to bump into other energy in various forms. The reaction can be anything from nothing to an intense change of state. Like the butterfly effect this energy can cause a chain reaction as it bumps into other energy as it moves through the universe. This is how a spell can create the desired outcome one seeks but also can give unexpected details or cause other unexpected occurrences to ensue. Our atmosphere has a lot of energy, we see this through solar power and how it effects our weather, causes plants and animals to grow and influences their behavior, it even effects human minds and bodies. We connect to this energy to then gather and redirect it. Our redirection hopefully makes it's way through the endless energy out there. Keeping our thoughts focused helps this even after a spell is cast. This is why mundane follow through is important. Once can not cast a spell for better health and then eat unhealthy, pollute the body with toxins, or continue other unhealthy habits.

Oddly enough, that's scarily close to what I already thought based on bits of information I've come across over the years.

My interest in magic started many years ago with the concept of the Force from Star Wars, which for those unfamiliar is an energy field that's created by everything in the universe. While the Force depicted in Star Wars is fictional, everything in the universe is made of energy and does give off energy. Magic is just another method of using our version of the Force. Since everything is connected by a sort of web of energy and a spell is just energy focused with intention, then it would make sense that when a spell is cast it moves from the caster's aura through the energy surrounding everything, creating ripples like a rock being tossed into a lake. A spell then is really an attempt to create the right ripples to make something specific happen as long as it's physically possible and has a path to success.

When talking about known forms of energy interacting that makes sense. That's how weather works for example. I suppose my problem is that this theory assumes that magical energy or thought energy can directly affect external reality, which to my knowledge there isn't scientific proof of. It's been proven that everything is made of and emits energy, but I'm still not sure exactly how a spell can affect external reality. We can detect brainwaves, but not after they travel a short distance from the brain. The only conclusion I can come to is that this is simply a part of physics we don't yet understand and don't yet have the ability to measure properly. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
