Post # 1
It's been quited lately in the covenant not really sure why either? But I've been thinking for awhile now what I want to do with my life lately? So Basically I went to the knife shop today and I went to the artifacts items area and something weird happened there was mask on the wall that I've never seen there before well after I saw them It's like I was being watched by something in the store my chest had a little pain in it and my eyes and head started feeling wired like my soul was trying to get out of my body from my head. I don't know what happen today but it was odd

It would be greatly helpful to know what the mask was. If you can find an image that matches it. Maybe see if the shop itself has a website with a store-page or shopping page.

There are many different kinds of masks, from many different cultures and for a huge variety of purposes. There are masks for armored fighting, masks for sports, funerary masks, ritual masks, executioner masks, deific masks, masks just for fun, masks as effigies... and the list probably goes on.

Mostly, masks ate for a few specific underlying purposes though;

-to hide identity, so the user can act more freely or be protected from consequence (both societal and spiritually)

- To assume an identity/take on a new identity, for example to represent the spirit and influence of a specific animal or to embody the spirit of a deity. Or to allow a dead person to be identified by preserving a likeness (think a mummy's death mask)

- as practical protection from physical harm, in sports or war it hurts getting smacked in the face.

-to be a home for a spirit, typically a guardian or other spirit you might want to watch over a place within an object that has eyes to see out of, and a mouth to give warning or otherwise act through.

-sometimes a mask is just for fun. To invoke fear (halloween) or to separate inhibition (mardi-gras) or to simply represent a fun or regal idea (Masquerade)

Knowing what sort of mask you encountered, what it was made from, what expression it held, what culture it came from, can really help in divining its purpose and influence.
