Loose Incense
By:
Post # 1

I made a loose incense blend for Yule.

It is stronger if I light it with a lighter and let it smoke a little.

I tried burning it on a charcoal disk but it would not stay lit.

I am currently warming it in an oil warmer which uses a tea light and it smells good, but smells more like Yule Time when lit.

My main concern is using all my lighter fluid lighting it. I like the smell of it, perhaps using it ritually at Yule would be best? In the mean time I have the bit of it on my warmer I can warm.

Just thinking out loud here. I can always also try a coal again at a later time.

I imagine your incensesmells divine and contains hints of pine and clove <3 Charcoal disks are great for loose incense and granulated resins but they can also be hard to light properly. Holding the disk into a large flame from certain candles or the flame from a gas stove or even a fire in a pit is the best way to light them. Trying to use just a lighter to light a charcoal disk often wastesthe fuel and the lighter becomes very hot. It really is not safe to use a lighter to light a charcoal disk. There are also charcoal tongs so that one can safely handle the charcoal at any point while lighting or burning the disk. Sometimes these self lighting charcoal disks become to old to use,often because they were notstored in an air tight containeronce the foil packaging was opened. Proper storage will keep your incenseand your charcoal disks from taking on too much moisture from the air, it keeps these magical items fresher to be sealed in an air tight container.

Below are some links to our charcoal related items that we carry in the SoM Shop;

Thank you Katie that helped a lot!

I was not aware putting these in a container like a jar is better for them.

I also found your suggestion to try lighting them in a candle flame very helpful.

Thank you.
